  1. Well then, people need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

Exactly. We have a system that works, and is very popular, yet some doofuses keep trying to screw with it.

You remind me of the governmental agencies (read...bureaucrats) that I have to contend with that resist change for change sake... :frustrated:

Better yet, I think we should get rid of fashion and all wear Mao-cloaks... :sumo:

    Or greggy parkas. hm
I was informed that its a fleece jacket not a parka. Continued references to it being a parka will result in increasingly strange PM's.
  2. Congratulations on your progress and good luck on finishing!!! (worship)

Thank you! :foryou: Fortunately, I gave myself 10 years when I started so so far I've always felt ahead of schedule which has been a welcome feeling. Now, after buying an average of about 5 books a month for years, being only able to add a book every other month doesn't feel right and I might lose the impetus to finish ...

Very impressive! (worship) Please don't lose the impetus. Why don't you post the 11 that you are missing and maybe we can help? I think I may check my birthdate and see what was printed. This sounds like a fun project.
  3. "Double Indemnity"

Feel free to toss in a movie poster pic when you feel like it.

I picked this movie poster up at the flea-market this morning and wanted to share. I figured this would be the safest place to post it. I love obscure 50's B-movie stuff and this has that "Reform School Girl" feel to it. I googled Cleo Moore and evidently she is a cult-favorite and was a minor-league Marilyn Monroe. I love the title graphic with the camera. :cloud9: Now I need to figure a way to convince the wife that this needs to be on our office wall. hm

  4. I picked these comics up at the flea market too.

Btw, every time you mention this mystical flea market, I am sick with envy. You're posting interesting stuff for sure but I want to know where that flea market is. Of course, when would also be an interesting question and if I need a time machine to attend, I might as well use it to go straight to the printers (yes, those that would use their time machine to go to the newsstands are :screwy:. Me, straight to the printing press).

    Scrooge,

Most of the comics and pulps that I have were purchased since 1995. Since I live on the east coast, I have gone to flea markets in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York (including Manhattan) and Florida. They are all well known to antique collectors and toy collectors (like Noah from the antique road show). Some flea markets were better than others. I think the competition with ebay has made it all a little more difficult but I am sure there are bargains out there. Sometimes you pay too much like for platinum age stuff. A rare Mutt and Jeff may not be worth as much as a Donald Duck or an All Star. Near Mint original Classic Comics can be found at low prices but low grade 15th edition classics can also be found at the same price. I only made one really large purchase but the condition of the comics were low (a few near mints) and I had to sell the best ones (Suspense 3, Captain America 4 and Thrilling 41) due to the expense. But I have a lot of other comics, pulps, BLB and badges that I have kept.

Most of my collection came from flea markets (hence the name). I can't afford to buy these from heritage, clink, etc but I am able to put in a lot of time and detective work into hunting down comics. I also set up at a local flea market once a week and network with as many vendors as possible because they are always out there at garage sales and auctions and they know they can flip their finds to me for a quick profit. These were all flea market purchases within the last year or so. Because of the weather in Florida, flea markets are pretty much a year-round opportunity. My weekly outings aren't always fruitful, but the thrill of the chase keeps me going. :cloud9:

  5. And speaking of my adventures in the islands.... After two long weeks of digging holes in the side of a mountain with very little to show for it other than some hornet stings, I finally got home last night to find this waiting for me:

The pulp?.. or what is depicted on the cover? hm
  6. I think this is my first post in this forum because I don't collect much OA.

Today was a good day though.

I found this at a small local con today. It was quite a surprise to see it there. A little bit of cash and a few comics to trade later and I'm now the new owner.

I got to see this today right after MCMiles picked it up. (worship) I may have to go looking for a western Kirby piece to put it in my price range. hm

  7. This thread is an example of what is wrong with our country. No one wants to take responsibility for their own actions.

CGC did not over value your book, you did. If the book came back a PLOD, then CGC didn't miss the restoration, you did or the person you purchased it from did.

CGC was paid to perform a service in one day, which was to grade your book. That they did. Nowhere have I found a statement that says they will image your book in one day.

Buck up. Admit your mistakes and talk it out with the customer service department. Apparently you are like 90% of the world. You create your own problems and then want someone else to fix them. Now, take responsibility for it and take steps to correct your problem on your own. Your mother doesn't work here.

    Can you be rented? lol
  8.

    lol:roflmao:

It took me until this morning to finally get it. lol It's not fun being slow.

Do you remember that promotion that McD's had where if you could say their Big Mac slogan in under 3 seconds(?) you got a free sandwich?

"Two all-beef patties, special sauce , lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame-seed bun"

  9. and the sea monster, esp. 2nd page fifth panel, quite like kubert
I am sorry but "like kubert" and "Raymond influenced" is not going to fly. We need snazzy name/adjectives. A precedent has been set with Flessel-esque and Barksian. I would suggest that descriptions like Kubert-y, Raymond-ant, Foster-ial, Shuster-ous, etc. be used in order to give the appearance of intellectual discourse. :baiting:
  10. BZ, can you post pictures of your Phantom Ladies? :)

I'll check to see if I have any within easy reach. (thumbs u

Lots of my collection is buried in boxes but I think I know where the Phantom Lady comics are hiding. hm

It's in the "C" warehouse, 3rd floor, aisle 42, 5th shelf, 4th box from the left. :gossip:
