  1. TOTU #27 is one of my favorite covers from the run! The spacemen remind me of the knights of yore!
  2. Nice books! You should mosie those on over to the "2nd String DC Sci-Fi" thread. Bill
  3. Second string indeed! Space Ranger just gets no respect! I'm always interested in high grade mags with Space Ranger or Mark Merlin covers. You know, after all the great covers that have shown up on this thread, I am going to officially flip-flop and curse myself for even thinking of selling any of these gems!!! However, as I upgrade, I do sell my undercopies.... Oh, and speaking of Mark Merlin.. here is his first app. More HOS to come!
  4. Sounds like you have a whole new sub-genre: DC "Giant 5000 Prize Contest" issues! I agree that I don't find this too distracting to the cover at all. DC tried again with those "Free Ice Cream" coupons as well. I'm just glad that this trend didn't continue. What I did find offensive were some of the cover ads that Charlton had in the late 50' ... putting ad blurbs on some of those Ditko covers was like putting bumper stickers over the Mona Lisa...SHEESH! Bill
  5. Fantastic covers Z !!! I am going to agree with Adam that the HOS #3 is spectacular. I love those SAs too. Super!!
  6. Here's an issue that does not get a lot of fanfare.. first silver age Ka-Zar app. First Hidden Land too...
  7. This is one of my favorite FF story lines. Doom steals the Surfer's power and goes on a rampage... then the big duke-out with Mr Grimm. This was the FF at its peak. Bill
  8. Oh, I agree. I am just speculating that DC never reprinted it because of the strong similarities to Marvel's Thunder god. This is prior work and presumably has an up to date copyright. Shouldn't be any reason to worry and it's not like Kirby, Lee or anyone at Marvel invented the Norse God, Thor. I don't think its because of that -- rather I would think that the editors at DC might have thought readers could have been confused to see a Kirby Thor in a DC mag. During the early 70s, a lot of DC's sci-fi was being reprinted in giant size reprint titles like Strange Adventures and From Beyond the Unknown - and Kirby had just left Marvel in a huff. Maybe Kirby and the DC editors wanted this story buried to avoid any Marvel connection. Ooo, sounds like a conspiracy theory ... or just some good ol' fashion Kentucky windage! Again, pure speculation.
  9. Oh, I agree. I am just speculating that DC never reprinted it because of the strong similarities to Marvel's Thunder god.
  10. Can you help me out here because it isn't obvious to me. Very well... By popular demand... Never reprinted....until NOW! Kirby's "THE MAGIC HAMMER" from Tales of the Unexpected #16...Enjoy!
  11. And now that your life long quest is over, it's for sale on comiclink? Oh man, dont sell it... this is your grail... Crack it out of that tomb and love it. It needs love man!!! Its is truly something to be treasured....
  12. Doesn't this issue have a Kirby Thor (pre-JIM) story? That was #16 Yes, 16 appears earlier in this thread. Overstreet is full of it when they say that the Thor character in TOTU #16's "The Magic Hammer" is "not like later Thor". This Thor looks almost exactly like Odin in JIM.... and their hammers are identical. It's quite obvious why DC never reprinted this. Bill
  13. {using the RingMaster's Hat} JOIN US....JOIN US.......
  14. Fantastic covers Beaumonts!!! Thanks! I wonder if this guy is related to the other big green hand in House of Mystery #80?
  15. Here is a great MGA cover. How dose'nt love a giant robot cover?
  16. Another nice Kirby cover & story. If only I could get my wife to walk in this machine...
  17. Here is another Egyptian motif - Moreira again, I believe...
  18. Here is a great Kirby Crater Creature cover - not to be confused with the later Thor foes - The Lava Men.
  19. Danger Trail #4 and All-American 103 in the Selling thread. thanks, Bill http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2141190&page=2#Post2141190
  20. I would love to see more books from this "KC" Collection...who knows, it could be a brand new pedigree!!! Bill
  21. More great books! Those early TOTU remain quite elusive. Your requirements for selecting books sounds a lot like my own. But I have to ask... why are you up to your pupils in gators? BIll
  22. I love the pink sky in this cover. The story of the Saragaso Sea reminds me of one of my favorite Hammer films: THE LOST CONTINENT (its quite a little gem of a film). Bill
  23. Well I hope you enjoy this then!!! OOBA DOOBA!!!! (as George Jetson would say) This guy is pretty good!!! I would love to see his take on Suicide Squad's lovely Karin Grace
  24. Something jumped! (somebody had to write it -- I live to serve) Great set of covers! There are several "lady under glass" collectors on the forum, right? The pinnacle was Weird Science 20 -- 50 of 'em! Some great pulp covers too. Jack Yes, the "lady under glass" was very popular in the golden age. The Timley thread in the Golden Age section has some nice Marvel Mystery Comics with this motif. Great stuff. Bill
  25. Howdy ZZutak! Being a fan of DC Sci-Fi is nothing to ever be ashamed of... In fact, it shows you have exquisite taste in funny books! Wonderful MGA covers ZZutak. I love that 14 with the gorilla cover. NICE!!! Bill
