  1. Nice copy!!! That issue is one of the hardest pre-hero B&B to get in grade. Bill
  2. This is one of my all-time favorite Kirby covers (next to HOM #85 - which appears ealier in this thread). This is seen by some as a prototype to the Doom Patrol's Negative Man (who would debut a couple of years later)..and they may have a point. The character is very similar - the Negative Man comes and goes from the body of his host scientist. The Neg Man here, however, is much closer in appearace to the Kirby Torch as he appeared in FF1 (mostly yellow and light orange). Great story.
  3. I dunno, something about this cover just creeps me out. oooo scary big green hand!
  4. And another "lady under glass cover". I wonder if sales jumped when they used this motif?
  5. Here is another great Moreira cover. This makes a great book-end to MGA #19.
  6. Here is a great example of Silver age GGA. I just love those "ladies under glass" covers...Hmm sounds like that could be a whole sub-genre...
  7. As promised, here is a nice round of House of Mystery... First up is a nice sea-faring cover with a couple of salty ol' sea-dogs. Oh yeah, theres great Kirby story inside...
  8. Candice always wanted a mink coat..the soft touch of mink always sent a chill down her spine...BUT NOT LIKE THIS....[sob]
  9. Thanks Jeffro, that makes it all worthwhile! You know, going thru these lil' gems has made me realize just how truly great they are. Next up, some House of Mystery.. Bill
  10. Anyone know who did the cover art on this one? I see some Kubert in there. I believe it is Moreira. His style here is a bit Kubert-ish. A great book-end to this comic is SHOWCASE #25 - Rip Hunter in ancient Egypt. Great stuff! Bill
  11. This is an under-rated cover -- love the fiery gem alien creature-thingy -- but I don't see any greytone effects. I think there are some slight grey tones on this cover. Maybe its not coming thru on the scan, but I do see some of the traditional soft blurring on the hunter's face that's apparent in other grey tones. Then again, maybe I need glasses.
  12. MGA #28 - This one is also one of my favorite covers, and its a killer copy. I just love the colors on the guy's mask. Also, there is a great Kirby monster story inside that could have been published a few years later in an Atlas mag.
  13. Another great "spaceman" cover on MGA #22 - this is an interesting issue, as it contains 3 types of stories: a sci-fi, a western, and a knight story. Great cover...
  14. I don't know what it is about the cover of MGA #20, but it so intrigued me, that I picked it up at a NYC comic show in '82 and that started me on collecting DC Sci-Fi. Oh, there's a Kirby story inside too...
  15. No Kirby art here, but who can resist this great Moreira Egyptian goddess cover?
  16. Next up... MGA#18 - I believe this is the only Kirby grey tone cover...ever. Great monster cover and story.
  17. Howdy! I'm back with some great issues of MY GREATEST ADVENTURE. First up is MGA #17 - one of my favorite gray tone covers. This issue (like alot of my DC sci-fi) contains a wonderful Kirby sci-fi story.
  18. Me too! Let's just hope this next one wasn't a Gus Ricca self-portrait. Wow, what more could they possibly do to that poor guy?
  19. Those Fireside books are great. My favorite was the MYSTERIES IN SPACE - the Best of DC Science Fiction. Bill
  20. Yikes indeed! I wish he was around when I put up a bunch of GICs a year ago... I wonder what exactly 'excellent plus" condition is?
  21. The old "hidden machine gun trick" -- and to think that's the second time I fell for it this month... Here is the rare last issue of BATTLE. This one is a little gem, because it contains a great story drawn by Kirby and inked by Ditko. These collaborations are little slices of Heaven for those of us who collect pre-hero monster titles. I believe this was the only Kirby/Ditko war story. Bill
  22. Take that you no good Pinko Commies!!!!
  23. Oh, you "Big 5" Guys and your precious DC Covers...FEH! Here are some great issues of BATTLE that appeared just at the sunset of the Atlas era. Alot of these have great stories by Kirby, Severin, Heck, Williamson and even a rare few war stories by Mr Ditko (such as in the 63 below). Bill
  24. I was going to keep this thread "pre-hero", but I will admit it... I am a Space Ranger fan.. there I said it.. Say what you will about SR, but ya gotta love the color on these covers..
