  1. That is a strong trailer! Again, I go to the wife and daughters test when viewing a trailer for my comic movies and they give it a strong two thumbs up. Soundtrack is solid and the promise of action is good. I believe Affleck will deliver in this one. Can't wait.
  2. Excellent, excellent thread, Gator! Thanks for taking the time to post the pics and walk us through the weekend.

    Gotham

I haven't had a chance to watch Gotham yet, but that clip is good. It started a little rough, but by the end, the look and the laugh were dead on. Sometimes I sit back and just say "wow" at the treatment comics are getting right now. From the clips I'm seeing, the production value and look of Gotham is incredible - high quality stuff.
  4. John, through the years I periodically go through phases where I do become more focused on certain publishers . There have been times when I was super interested in Centaur, other times it was Street & Smith, another time it was Novelty Press, etc. However, if I had to name only two publishers that year after year I always love, it's DC and Dell. They were my childhood favorites and I still love both of them. Regarding Adventure Comics with jungle themed covers: I promise I'll go through my boxes to see what I've got that might be of interest to you. Sounds great! I'm with you on DC being a childhood favorite. While I enjoy many different publishers in different eras, it seems that I always come back to DC for that great base of heroes that anchored the Golden Age.
  5. Bang, I have really enjoyed reading through this thread. The comics and memorabilia you have shared is mind blowing. I am a big fan of pre-hero DC Adventure Comics, especially with the jungle themes - just some incredible covers. Any chance you would be willing to post some DC pre hero Adventure Comics with the jungle themed covers? Also, I'm not sure if you have said anything to this, but what is your favor publisher from the early to mid Golden Age? Any favorite artists or run of books that you enjoy above all else?
  6. I think that cover is by Nick Cardy. But Adams did do a Green Lantern back up story in that issue. You are correct sir. After scanning it, I decided to pull it out for a read a few minutes ago and saw it had the Adams GL story and with further inspection saw that it wasn't an Adams cover. For some reason, I always thought it was Adams, I guess Barry Allen's face reminded me of his work.
  7. Here's a purchase from the board several years ago.
  8. Not the best copy, but represents one of my first buys from Ebay when I got back into collecting in '07. 20 cent DC's have always been a major focus for me and Flash 226 was one of my first priorities. Didn't hurt going after a Neal Adams cover either...
  9. Love, love, love DC 20 cent covers. Brings me back to being a kid and seeing them on the spinners in 7-11 stores. Give me a 20 cent DC, a pack of baseball cards, a pack of Wacky Packages and a couple of pixie sticks and I am in heaven.
  10. It wouldn't surprise me to see it get it either grade, but I would lean towards 9.6. Sharp, sharp book.
  11. My gosh those are amazing! Love DC horror and in those bags they are even better. Nice stuff comicwiz!
  12. Here is my copy. Purchased on this board in '08 from blue808.
  13. Agree that Cap 1 is an underrated movie in the Marvel Universe. Totally enjoyable and the WWII setting is well done.
  14. Agree with most others here that the showed really improved half way through the season. I liked it from the beginning, but I have to say the quality of the acting and the plot really improved as the season progressed. Also agree that Mae improved during the season. Seems she was too stiff at the beginning and then by the end of the season she may have been my favorite. Not sure how it happened, but Fitz and Simmons got a lot better at the end and I thought started contributing to the story in a more reasonable way. I am glad that the were true to the developments with Ward and didn't turn it into some triple cross deal. It would have been completely disingenuous. As to Nick Fury, I really liked the fact they gave him some significant screen time. Good interaction with him and Coulson and a fitting ending to the season. All in all, I like it and look forward to next season.
  15. It's cool the way these movies have caught on with the general public and especially the teens and young adults. I have 2 in college and 1 in high school, all girls, and they usually see these movies with their boyfriends during opening weekends. Mind you, these girls generally only like chick flicks, but when it comes to the Marvel and DC superhero movies, they are in like flint, even talking about the movies a month before they open. Really cool how the easter eggs during the credits become discussion points for us about the characters and how they may play into the next movie.
  16. Hard to believe only $250MM domestic. Should be a minimum $300MM with the positive critic reviews and word of mouth.
  17. Finally got around to seeing this last night and I agree with most others, it was very, very good. Intense and well acted by everyone. I am a big fan of the first Cap movie, mostly due to the WWII setting and the way in which Chris Evans played Cap. It had the right mix of action and drama but had the added bonus of enough funny mixed in that I thought it all worked well. However, I may like Winter Soldier even more. This movie was completely different in feel. Intense action throughout the movie combined with a great plot and more solid acting. ScarJo has completely sold me on being Black Widow and Chris Evans is Captain America. He is playing the role as good as it can be done. My only complaint is that they need to scale back on some of the crashes and destruction of everything. We don't have to have 30 car crashes and 10 helicarriers/jets crashing to fill up the screen. Outside of that, this film works and works well. Perfect mix of action and spy thriller. It's like James Bond on steroids. Heck, my wife loved it. In fact, she is totally buying into all of the superhero movies that are coming out now and I never thought this would happen. She asks about the characters and wants background. I hope everyone realizes that we are experiencing the Golden Age of Superhero movies, especially the way they are treating the Marvel Universe. At some point this will all end, but for now, I am loving it.
  18. They showed Koenig's body. There is no doubt about Ward. He is Hydra. I don't know if you got to see more than me, but all I saw was a quick glimpse of his body through a grate. It was quick and it was dark showing nothing but a man lying still. No wounds. How can you say for sure he is not just unconscious? I do believe he is Hydra also, but I think they can change the plot in the future by not really showing us the dead bodies now. I'd like to see one or two in the morgue on a slab or something with characters showing real grief over their deaths. The only two killings that really stand out are the two agents on the plane that he shot in the forehead. I saw a quick hole in one forehead, but even that could be faked if they really wanted to. Advanced science and gizmos. LMDs? We're all jaded when it comes to TV character deaths, but as others have said, Ward has clearly stepped over the line with the deaths. It was the death of the 2 agents on the plane plus the shooting of Agent Hand that convinced me that Ward was for real in killing the good guys. Not sure how blood behind Ward's ear and the dripping blood from Koenig's body onto Skye doesn't convince you that he's dead or was left for dead. Ward was a plant by Hydra into Coulson's team and there is no way around it.
  19. Whew! I got way behind watching the show, but had recorded them on DVR and finally got the chance to watch all episodes since late January, including yesterday's. I have also managed to NOT read this thread in that time, so here is my first post thoughts since last year. All I can say is, "WOW". Beginning with the Clairvoyant storyline, this show has really hit a stride. Acting is much better, even the Fitz and Simmons characters are much better, which I didn't think would happen. Joss Whedon has worked his magic by slowly, almost painfully, building the characters and then before you know it, "Pow", you care about them and are vested in their stories. Really liked what Bill Paxton brought to the show. I was a fan of the show from the start. To me it embodied what comics were in the 70's - action oriented and fun. ABC has spared no expense making it and it shows on the screen. For any of you that wrote this show off in the first month or so, all I can say is find a way to watch it and get caught up. You will not be disappointed. My take on the latest: Ward is definitely Hydra and is not a ploy. He has killed the good guys and they are dead. They showed blood coming from Agent Hand for a reason - to show he was not using the stun bullets.
  20. Good. Now... How the heck was it a 7.0 in the purple label case? A book doesn't get a grade bump just because it's a PLOD correct? The fact that a micro-trim was missed isn't that upsetting to me, since it's happened before. But the difference between a 6.0 and 7.0 on a JIM 83 is huge. -Yes, I'm the only person in the thread more concerned about that than the trim which probably makes me a weirdo. This thread clearly shows that CGC can't detect trimming consistently. That's very concerning and is the 'headline' of this thread. That the grade can change from 6.0 to 7.0 isn't getting much attention and that's a shame. This thread questions CGC's consistency in regards to both it's restoration detection AND it's grading. Very disturbing. Agree. I would hope that a book would not change this much on 3 different submissions for the big 3: resto, grade and page quality. But hey, it's in a nice holder now and fairly protected from the elements so all is good...
  21. Nice! I missed on one of these in last year's Heritage Auction and regret not going up on my bid to get it. Great Cover. Definitely like the pre hero Adventure comics issues 34 - 39 with the jungle themed covers.
  22. I enjoy the show, it's different than other stuff out there and it is improving week by week.
