Oh great. And I gave my review copy to my 4-year old. You don't even want to know what it's going to look like in the next week or so...
(Just kidding--I don't feel bad at all. Kid loves it)
-
grrr. they revieled the cover of the second printing of #1
https://www.imagecomics.com/content/view/rat-queens-on-the-scene-with-a-sell-out
It's alright... won't spoil the contents
The sellout does not surprise me at all. This series, like Skullkickers and Superior Foes of Spider-Man, is officially on my "Beer and Comics" list. *Fun* times.
And won't lie: I was pretty jazzed when I saw Image name-checked me on the review.

Had a LOT of fun reading this one. Def. brought to mind nights playing AD&D!-)

Just had three CLASSIC style commissions done (water color) from Thomas Boatwright. He's an up-and-coming indie guy, but SO talented!
Here are two 8x11 paintings he did of Superman and Batman along with two water color sketch cards of Spider-Man / Peter Parker:

Hannah does a phenomenal job on her write ups--well done.
-
I won't get mine for 2 more days so I think I'mgoing to the LCS because this sounds great
Woohoo !
Third review from the top
This series has been phenomenal and one I am VERY glad to see getting the on-going treatment. From Frank's understanding of pulpy, episodic adventures to Chris and Lauren's amazing and unique art, well, it's a win of a series.
-
Sad to see that the cover of #4 says four of five...
Frank's indicated there's a good chance of this becoming an on-going series. Just keep your eyes peeled

My review just posted today--Frank, Chris, and Lauren deliver the goods once again!

Gemma,
If I have a signature series book that, say, presents like a 2.5-3.0 BUT it has tape on it so received a 1.0, could I send it to Classics Inc, get the tape removed, improved the grade, and still keep the SS designation w/o adding a restored label?
Thanks!

Gave them a 9/10 on Newsarama this week:

Really strong follow up to #1--well worth grabbing if you haven't already.

I wish I was in with the in crowd and got to read stuff early
I write reviews for some comics news sites (Newsarama, Sequart, and Nerdspan), so I'm on a number of publishers' press lists.
-
Wait til you guys read Issue #2--due out this week. Love that the storytelling and the artwork didn't drop in the least. Definitely getting another solid review from me this week.
-
Here's the review I wrote up today for Newsarama as well--if you got a copy of this book, congrats as ALL 1st prints have already sold out!

Yeah, but how long would those time payments stretch out? Aye, there's the rub...
I was just glad to be able to see first hand copies of Action 1 and Tec 27. I'm writing about these and researching the after-effects of these issues for my dissertation, and it was almost surreal standing there (w/ Rick) thinking about how some kid bought that particular book off the rack and had no idea s/he was holding a history-making comic in her/his hands. Crazy, huh?
-
Well, here's one Filter81 / Adam has up for grabs a little closer to reality:
Detective Comics 27 Restored EP 0.5
Lord, I'd love to own this book. But to even place a THRILL bid, I'd need to sell of my signed AF 15 and most likely my absolute gem: a book from the collection of J.R.R. Tolkien signed by the man himself. Even, I'd still probably lose this auction.
-
Man, I don't even have a plain ol' run of the mill copy of Turtlemania yet. WTF. I need to get on this.
-
Does anybody know who is Kenny that mac man refers to? EJR
He's referring to the boardie Ze-Man who works for/with Matt Nelson of Classics Incorporated. Check out the last few pages of the thread "The official progress on my GL 1 restoration by Kenny thread" in the resto forum for some more incredible resto pictures of work done by Kenny/Matt on a GL #1.
Sorry, I guess I take it for granted that not everyone know him or his work. But the man definitely works magic on comics.
And LOVE that coverless Tec 31!!! Not that I could even afford that copy, but it's probably closest I'd get to owning a copy!-)

I just posted a new commission by Ron Lim featuring some cosmic type goodness (Surfer, Mephisto, Firelord, Gladiator, and the Guardians)
22" x 17"

Nice! I'm a really big fan of Ron Lim--very underrated. Very clean, crisp artwork and I never felt like he dialed it in when it came to his interiors. (I have an unpublished Surfer from him and will soon have a published FF4 page).

So many wins in this thread. I love it. Sadly, my only recent TMNT addition was the hardcover Ultimate Collection v. 1--which I love! Got it on Amazon for 50% off, so that's on the reading pile!
-
Wait a second! DC had keys in the Silver Age?
-
Gator,
Coverless Comic Battle Royale--you call the shots. Which are your Top 3 Winners?
Guidelines: All copies are missing both front and back but are unrestored and complete. Million Dollar comics excluded from competing.
-
I remember seeing one at my LCS--total beater in 1.0 for sale for $400. I had just droped $130 for a pair of high grade copies of ASM 121 & 122--and was sweating bullets from that purchase alone (biggest at the time).
The one I own now is a strong 1.0 (1.5 from the inital grader's notes), and it was my first big key. Absolutely love this book!
-
Kenny's work with comics is simply amazing. I was watching Toy Story 2 last night with my family, and when the toy restoration expert came out, I turned to my wife and told her "I'm friends with comic collecting community's version of that guy--except he's younger."
And if you guys think these books LOOK newsstand fresh, you should see how they look and feel in person!
-
Wow. That's over the top.
