  1. 9.0 going to 9.4 or 9.6 once pressed. The book presses nicely but the corner will limit grade.
  2. I have seen them grade printer's creases as if they were normal creases lately. I always thought they were lenient with those but that has not been my experience lately. Maybe others can advise if that is normal because I would like to know. Still I think your book grades 8.0 at worst and 9.0 at best.
  3. Really nice copy for that vintage! Shame about that tiny tear. 6.5ish now with a possible 7.5 once cleaned and pressed!
  4. 4.0 now with a possible 5.0 if cleaned and pressed. Congrats!
  5. Beautiful copy but I think 8.0 (maybe 8.5) unpressed.
  6. Around 4.5 now but this book will have a tremendous eye appeal improvement and bump as high as 5.5 (or 6.0) if pressed and cleaned! You will regret grading that book without pressing it first because you will always wonder what grade it could have received! DM me or pull up my website if you want assistance! 7. It could squeeze out an 8.0 and not much can be done to improve the grade due to the corner creases.
  8. Great comments above! I too think you are in the 7.0/7.5 range and the book's spine creases can be improved with pressing and there is a good chance that some of the distributor ink on the back cover could be removed or lightened in cleaning. Ron, Palm Beach Presser
  9. The quote came from my IG post on 8/23! Thanks for mentioning & remembering it ;-)
  10. Thank you for advising us, CGC Mike. We are all hoping for a fast resolution and I am happy that increased efforts are being made to make it happen!
  11. 7.0/7.5. The distributor ink will not affect the grade too much and might even be lightened or removed in cleaning.
  12. As a comic presser, I need CGC to succeed and rely on their ability to uphold their reputation as THE source for accurate grading. Unfortunately, I received my own modern submissions of pressed books back this week and 6 out of 50 had significant and noticeable new spine creases that are not appropriate for the 9.8/9.6 grades received. Almost all inner wells had some identifiable bend but not all books had obvious damage (at this time). The bending wells are exacerbating inherent weaknesses in some spines and sometimes causing new color breaks (or texture changes) at those spine bends. This leads to many concerns not the least of which is that if this issue is not resolved quickly there will be a lot of books in 9.8 and 9.6 cases that are not worthy of those grades which will severely impact the credibility of CGC. Books that did not have color breaks are being permanently damaged by these bent wells - the way the light reflects off the books can be repaired in most scenarios, the color breaks and texture changes in cardstock covers will be persistent. From a personal standpoint, how will my customers feel about my work - which I take tremendous pride in - if they receive books back from CGC that look like the books that I received back this week? Would you use me again? I felt that it was necessary to share my own experience with my submission with my customers so they are aware and give consideration to the current situation before submitting at this time even though it will obviously impact my workload and financial health. I care about my reputation as a reliable, skilled presser and want my customers to be happy with the service that I (and CGC) provide. I am praying that CGC takes this as the most serious risk to their company and puts all effort into resolving this as soon as possible. I look forward to telling my customers that it is safe to submit books again. Ron, The PalmBeachPresser
  13. I offer an optional prescreen service that includes estimated current grades, listing of defects, and potential final grade if cleaned & pressed for $2.50/book. The customer then advises which books to proceed with servicing, and which to return (or send directly to CGC without pressing). Additionally, I provide an estimated grade for every book that I press included in the pressing fee. This gives the customer the opportunity to make the final decision on if each book is worthy of sending for grading. Find out more at https://PalmBeachPresser.com
