  1. I'd agree with everything except Centaur.

I know why Richard picked (AMF), over other Centaur titles, mainly Funny Pages (I think it's more super-hero oriented, and more sci-fi...Bill Everett...etc),

However, I would pick Funny Pages for the same reasons you picked Detective for DC, Marvel Mystery for Timely, Mystery men for Fox, Whiz for Fawcett, Pep for MLJ,...etc....etc....many would also chose Jumbo over Planet, but i can understand why Planet trumps Jumbo....good idea and great list. Also agree with FF #1.

    DC - Detective Comics

    Fox - MysteryMen

    Timely - Marvel Mystery

    Lev Gleason - Silver Streak

    Quality - Hit Comics

    Nedor - Exciting

    Fawcett - Whiz

    Chesler - Dynamic

    Ace - Super Mystery

    Hillman - Air Fighters/Airboy

    Dell - WDC&S

    MLJ - Pep

ACG - Adventures into the Unknown

EC - Weird Science (personal pick...each title is special)

    Harvey - Green Hornet

    Prize - Prize

    Centaur - Amazing Mystery Funnies

    Fiction House - Planet

    Atlas - Marvel Tales

    Marvel - Fantastic Four

  2. This reminds me, I was watching an old edisode of "Car 54 Were Are You" last night on ME and there was a copy of Fox & the Crow that was being looked at during one scene.

Do you happen to recall the title of last night's Car 54 episode?

There were two episodes on that night. The first one was THE WHITE ELEPHANT, followed by BENNY THE BOOKIES LAST CHANCE

I think it was Benny the Bookies Last Chance...thanks!!! hm

I don't know what issue it was, but I believe it's from 1962 because I do remember the cover featured the "square, 12 cent price box" on the cover.

Too bad they were scraped from the Roger Rabbit movie. That movie is amazing.

  5. Talk about a tough book. It took me four years to find a Good copy. Now after another four I've finally been able to upgrade. Thanks Adam!

Looks like Central America is toast. Ay carumba.

Thats a great looking copy (thumbs u

    Congrats Jeff... :applause:

I've never seen this book before.

It's amazing that there are so many gems to still be found in this hobby... hm

  6. Thanks to Ed R. at the Long Beach Con. Beautiful colors on this Eisner cover, with insides sporting a screwy Fletcher Hanks Big Red story that defy societal convention. And as with all Fight Comics everybody gets hit in the jaw at least once. The feel and smell of this book makes you sigh. Thx again to Ed.Fight3VFOW1andhalfinBtSpinetear875.jpg

Now that's a book you don't see very often. :o

    great pick-up!!! :applause:

  7. I'm hoping some FF guys can answer this. Why is Fantastic Four 1 so much more expensive than X-men 1? It's not much older and X-men is far more popular.

FF started the Marvel SA. FF intoduced many big characters and had

almost all the new Marvel characters crossed into the title.

    FF4 Submariner

    FF5 Dr Doom

    FF12 Hulk

    FF16 Antman

    FF 25-26 Avengers

    FF27 Dr Strange

    FF28 Xmen

Xmen 1 is a great book but the orignal Xmen weren't that popular. If Xmen 1

featured the modern Xmen it would probably be close to AF15 in value.

    Good answer torch... (thumbs u

but also the FF was Marvel's flagship title.

Stan & Jack cared much more about the FF than ANY other Marvel title, and it showed both in the writing, and in the artwork.

Also back in the early 60's the FF was way more popular than the X-men, which was only a bi-monthly comic until issue #14.

So in the early days the X-Men was NOT that popular a title. Even the Avengers which 1st issue was at the same time as the X-Men, was also a bi-monthly when first published but became a monthly with issue # 6. So the X-men was way behind, and one of Marvel's poorest selling titles.

In summuary...the FF was KING...the X-Men was barely hanging in there, and the FF was THE book which started the marvel re-birth...so historically it is the MOST IMPORTANT SA Marvel book period, even more historically important than AF #15. Without FF #1 ...none of the others would have existed including X-Men #1.

That's why it goes for more money than X-men #1.
