  1. I don’t see a thread about Registry issues so I’ll post this here (move to wherever appropriate if I’m in error). A user named JohnDubb added a bunch of comics to his Bone (Cartoon Books) set and it looks like he tried to get his Cartoon Books #24 into the issue 24 slot. Well, the Cartoon Books #24 is a second print and everyone who had the first print #24 from Image Comics had theirs removed from their sets when the change was made. The Cartoon Books #24 should only be added to the Bone (Cartoon/Image) All Variants set and the Image #24 should be in the first print Bone (Cartoon Books) set.

Please correct when you get a chance and thanks!

  2. A fellow board member reminded me that there’s some great examples of Jeff Smith art on CAF that many of you should check out, as well as some alternative artists who’ve given their shot at Bone illustrations. Many of them are convention sketches but there are also some finished pieces that I’m hoping will get a few more likes and comments such as Fone Bone Waving the Flag of FreedomJeff’s Busted coveran unpublished Bone Tribute covera Trilogy Tour cover, and the Complete Bone Adventures #3 cover art, which @CoinAddict has shown previously in this thread.

Give them a look if you can and please make comments!

    From our database specialist:

The 5 books indicated in this email have been changed to Second Print (Green Foil) versions.

That’s good news! I’m guessing the change will be reflected in the next census update (ten 9.8s are still showing).

The other certification numbers will eventually surface and, hopefully, someone in this thread will let you guys know if they’re legit or not :wishluck:

I doubt any of you have seen something like this and it is my favorite piece of his collection. Jeff drew this full page comic strip in March 1986 for a humor magazine called The Sundial which was given out for free on the campus of Ohio State. Jeff later reprinted the single page in the Bone Reader (1996) and also expanded the story for a full 8 page feature in Disney Adventures Magazine (1994), where many people first discovered Bone.

Our collector bought this around 1998 in a cash and trade deal (he traded away an unsigned 3-panel pencil sketch of Fone Bone writing his poetry). The previous owner says he obtained the page from partner at Character Builders after Jeff sold his share to start Cartoon Books with his wife Vijaya in 1991.

If you’ve read the entire Thorn Kickstarter book, you’ll know that this piece of OA will forever be referred to as the Rosetta Stone, coined by Jeff himself. He gave it a full two pages in the back section of the book right after the Thorn strips conclude.

It truly is a momentous piece of Bone history and thanks again to the collector for letting us see it :cloud9:

Now the question is do I take my verified cbcs books and cgc qualified, and get them jsa “authenticated” and regraded? Anyone with a guess on label color they will use?

That’s the big question. If they use yellow with only a written notification of a “verified signature”…let’s just say I’ll be upset.

Orange seems like a good option.

I'd be okay with keeping the yellow label and adding somewhere a A (Authenticated) or W (Witnessed) to it. Any yellow label without those two letters would be understood to be pre-authentication service books. I'm not at all against a different color though if that's what they go with. Just glad they're finally getting on board.

The yellow label has become a brand to me. It means that this signature was witnessed and there’s no doubt it’s real. A single letter on a predominantly yellow label is not enough of a distinction to me and would undoubtedly create confusion in the market place. Unless these books also have a witnessed signature on them, the color has to be a different color. Still praying that this will be the case.

I'm about 2/3rds of the way through the Thorn collection. I got the hardcover, which is a really nice production. I had low expectations for the strips themselves because Jeff has been so down on them for so long but they're really good. The art is way more advanced than I thought they would be considering his experience level as a cartoonist at that point, the jokes are funny, the humor a little edgy, the narrative is engaging. I dare say I might even like them better than the comic series and I like the comics a lot.

Very glad to hear you enjoyed it. I screenshotted all the strips during the pandemic and read them all in one sitting (had a lot of time on my hands lol). I’m glad no one will have to do this ever again :)

While I get you not wanting that, I think this is what's gonna happen. CGC isn't spending all this money on an acquisition to make as little as possible from it. The way they get the most business from this is to create a service people will want to purchase and what people would want most is for their non witnessed sig books to be as marketable as a witnessed sig book.

Would CGC make money by devaluing their own Signature Series yellow label? I think the opposite is true in the long run. I’m guessing that CGC makes more from SS than any of their other levels and an authentication service would only be a fraction of that take. Giving the two services the same colored label doesn’t seem logical to me.

Thats an excellent point, the note on the label would be enough to distinguish one from the other .

I completely disagree with this. A little note on the label that says “authenticated” against a yellow background isn’t nearly enough and will create confusion. If only an “authenticated” signature exists on a book, the entire label should be a different color. The SS service needs to be distinct.

Strictly speaking, nothing “deserves” anything. It’s a nice book that was signed by the creators as part of a highly-public, limited edition/numbered sketch/sign. It’s got Joe Q. and Jimmy P. on there, and so to me it’s just silly to have a green label that reads “two names written on cover.” I need them to tell me that on the label? I’m really excited to see how they’ll handle art on the covers because I would love to get it a yellow label if possible. I collect a lot of signed/sketched books and like to display them, and the green stands out like a sore thumb.

To me, the yellow label signifies “witnessed signature”. I understand your thoughts on the Daredevil book (not to mention green labels) but there is no way it “deserves” a yellow label since it wasn’t witnessed by a CGC rep. Giving “authenticated” signatures the same colored label with just a written notation would not only downgrade the significance of the Signature Series program but also create confusion in the market.

I’ve been a fan of SS for over 17 years now and that would surely end if they gave books with “authenticated signatures” the same label color. I’m fairly certain CGC wouldn't do this but the possibility makes me a tad nervous. I don’t think I’m alone.

That right there is why I think they will stick with yellow, and just have the simple, easy-to-read notes like the other guys.

And maybe the JSA logo printed on any label with verifieds.

    Witnessed signatures: blah, blah, blah.

    Verified signatures: blah, blah.

It will probably be similar to the SS Qualified label with a yellow background and a strip of “whatever color they choose for verified” across the top.
