While I get you not wanting that, I think this is what's gonna happen. CGC isn't spending all this money on an acquisition to make as little as possible from it. The way they get the most business from this is to create a service people will want to purchase and what people would want most is for their non witnessed sig books to be as marketable as a witnessed sig book.

Would CGC make money by devaluing their own Signature Series yellow label? I think the opposite is true in the long run. I’m guessing that CGC makes more from SS than any of their other levels and an authentication service would only be a fraction of that take. Giving the two services the same colored label doesn’t seem logical to me.

Thats an excellent point, the note on the label would be enough to distinguish one from the other .

I completely disagree with this. A little note on the label that says “authenticated” against a yellow background isn’t nearly enough and will create confusion. If only an “authenticated” signature exists on a book, the entire label should be a different color. The SS service needs to be distinct.

Strictly speaking, nothing “deserves” anything. It’s a nice book that was signed by the creators as part of a highly-public, limited edition/numbered sketch/sign. It’s got Joe Q. and Jimmy P. on there, and so to me it’s just silly to have a green label that reads “two names written on cover.” I need them to tell me that on the label? I’m really excited to see how they’ll handle art on the covers because I would love to get it a yellow label if possible. I collect a lot of signed/sketched books and like to display them, and the green stands out like a sore thumb.

To me, the yellow label signifies “witnessed signature”. I understand your thoughts on the Daredevil book (not to mention green labels) but there is no way it “deserves” a yellow label since it wasn’t witnessed by a CGC rep. Giving “authenticated” signatures the same colored label with just a written notation would not only downgrade the significance of the Signature Series program but also create confusion in the market.

I’ve been a fan of SS for over 17 years now and that would surely end if they gave books with “authenticated signatures” the same label color. I’m fairly certain CGC wouldn't do this but the possibility makes me a tad nervous. I don’t think I’m alone.

That right there is why I think they will stick with yellow, and just have the simple, easy-to-read notes like the other guys.

And maybe the JSA logo printed on any label with verifieds.

    Witnessed signatures: blah, blah, blah.

    Verified signatures: blah, blah.

It will probably be similar to the SS Qualified label with a yellow background and a strip of “whatever color they choose for verified” across the top.

That's unfortunate.  I hope he gets better.

I’m with you there. He has gone to just about every SDCC since the beginning of Bone so I’ll be following the creator guest announcements. Will definitely post anything of interest here.

This thread has taught me that if I'm ever in a position to determine what variants to produce for a potentially-significant comic, I'm going with a blue foil, green foil, aqua foil, AND turquoise foil. That'll show 'em.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure these are a cinch to distinguish in hand, but in photos with crappy lighting? Yeah...

For the graders to do this in the most simple way possible, they need to always have a true mass produced, second printing on-hand (which were all manufactured with the same colored cover). Just about anyone who isn’t colorblind would be able to tell the difference under the same lighting. In fact, I don’t think anyone who’s willing to spend big money on the true Blue cover has ever been fooled by the CGC label. Additionally, all the eBay sellers I’ve come across either know the difference or change their descriptions/pricing when notified about the error.

Unfortunately, the only people who haven't learned how to distinguish between the two second print covers are the CGC graders, but this can easily be fixed if they’re willing to do so :wishluck:

I have sent this to the team in our previous e-mail regarding this.

I looked at the recent census numbers for this book and there are now eleven 9.8s of the Second Printing/Blue Foil edition (was previously at 0 a few weeks ago). I’ll wager that most of these, if not all, are the green second printing like the eBay auction above. Is there anything that can be done about this? Is it possible to send the scans of the graded examples to people who know the difference and get it changed in the registry? I’m sure myself and @RockMyAmadeus can help you guys out (shrug)

Anyone see the auction for the Bone Series 1 sketch card on eBay? I thought it went low.

To put this into context, these are the Comic Images release numbers for the 1994 Bone Series I set: 2500 cases produced with 12 boxes per case. There were 100 sketch cards made for the set so they appeared at a rate of 1 per 25 cases or 1 per 300 boxes.

Including the latest sale, I’ve seen 7 of these come up on eBay since late 2006. The last one was in August 2014 for a Buy It Now price of $199.99 which sold in seconds. The last auction was in May 2014 for $334 with a slight smudge on the “S” in Smith.

I figured this example would get in the 800s but only two people made bids. Perhaps a lower opening bid would have been helpful.
