I'm hoping for equal to Universal, but I rather imagine they'll make them either equal to Signature or between Universal and SS.
Frankly, I personally wish that SS books also scored the same as Universal books. I don't see the appeal of signed books and I'm sad that means I've lost first place in at least one set forever. But I understand that's likely a minority stake at this point, and also that CGC has a fiduciary interest in their Sig Series program (and now, in authentication) and so rewards those products with registry points. Or, at least, I sort of understand...
I’ll guess that it goes between SS and Universal which will be a shame. I think equal to or even below Universal would make more sense, as you said, but CGC has to monetize this system. This is probably the primary reason SS is on top.

A new copy of Thorn Tales from the Lantern will be in the June 20-23 Comics and Comic Art Signature Auction on Heritage. The listing says that they’ve graded it as NM but no pics just yet. No mention of signatures or sketches either. Very curious to see what this will look like:
-
How do you think the “authenticated” books will score on the registry? At the moment, it has Signature > Universal > Qualified > Restored.

I predict that the value differential between witnessed and authenticated signatures will eventually be negligible.
Do you think buyers will know and/or care about the difference between the two when the “authenticated” slabs first hit the market?

Just as a flood of submissions come in, there will be a flood of “authenticated” JSA slabs hitting eBay/ComicLink/Heritage a month or two later. “How the market responds” will be the true test for the label.

I like how my unwitnessed sigs will now look like Pedigrees

@DocGo Hi there - not sure what exactly happened there but that book has been returned to the set. It's also been marked Legacy. No further additions will be made to it.
Thank you sir! I’m sure the user put in a request to add his Cartoon Books #26 to the Cartoon Books set and it was accepted. It would seem like a logical thing to do by anyone who made that decision, except for the fact that Image Comics produced the first prints for #21-27.
Jeff Smith made it confusing and it will never stop being confusing decades later

I don’t see a thread about Registry issues so I’ll post this here (move to wherever appropriate if I’m in error). A user named JohnDubb added a bunch of comics to his Bone (Cartoon Books) set and it looks like he tried to get his Cartoon Books #24 into the issue 24 slot. Well, the Cartoon Books #24 is a second print and everyone who had the first print #24 from Image Comics had theirs removed from their sets when the change was made. The Cartoon Books #24 should only be added to the Bone (Cartoon/Image) All Variants set and the Image #24 should be in the first print Bone (Cartoon Books) set.
Please correct when you get a chance and thanks!
Sorry, I meant #26. It was #24 the last time this happened

Anyone see the 9.8 Signature Series of a second print #1 on ComicLink last night? Went for $2100
I’ve never had an interest in collecting the different colored logos but I had an inkling that this may go big since it’s the only one on the census…but certainly not that big.

CBCS's labels clearly indicate if the book was "signed by xxx on xxx date" or if "signature verified by BAS". Either way, it's a book with a signature. To those that it matters which way - read the label.
So my hope - and expectation - is that CGC will treat verified - by JSA - signatures to the same yellow SS label. And this would be awful and put CGC on the same level as CBCS. I realize people really want to put their green labels in yellow but the Signature Series brand would effectively be destroyed. No one wants to squint to figure out if what they’re looking is witnessed or verified.

I’m starting to get nervous about this. Not that I buy a ton of CBCS slabs, but the way they use the same label color for witnessed and verified sigs is terrible.

A fellow board member reminded me that there’s some great examples of Jeff Smith art on CAF that many of you should check out, as well as some alternative artists who’ve given their shot at Bone illustrations. Many of them are convention sketches but there are also some finished pieces that I’m hoping will get a few more likes and comments such as Fone Bone Waving the Flag of Freedom, Jeff’s Busted cover, an unpublished Bone Tribute cover, a Trilogy Tour cover, and the Complete Bone Adventures #3 cover art, which @CoinAddict has shown previously in this thread.
Give them a look if you can and please make comments!

From our database specialist:
The 5 books indicated in this email have been changed to Second Print (Green Foil) versions.
That’s good news! I’m guessing the change will be reflected in the next census update (ten 9.8s are still showing).
The other certification numbers will eventually surface and, hopefully, someone in this thread will let you guys know if they’re legit or not

I doubt any of you have seen something like this and it is my favorite piece of his collection. Jeff drew this full page comic strip in March 1986 for a humor magazine called The Sundial which was given out for free on the campus of Ohio State. Jeff later reprinted the single page in the Bone Reader (1996) and also expanded the story for a full 8 page feature in Disney Adventures Magazine (1994), where many people first discovered Bone.
Our collector bought this around 1998 in a cash and trade deal (he traded away an unsigned 3-panel pencil sketch of Fone Bone writing his poetry). The previous owner says he obtained the page from a partner at Character Builders after Jeff sold his share to start Cartoon Books with his wife Vijaya in 1991.
If you’ve read the entire Thorn Kickstarter book, you’ll know that this piece of OA will forever be referred to as the Rosetta Stone, coined by Jeff himself. He gave it a full two pages in the back section of the book right after the Thorn strips conclude.
It truly is a momentous piece of Bone history and thanks again to the collector for letting us see it

He is currently out of town, and told me he would make these changes on Monday.
I do not have them. Also, or DB specialist is very busy. I recommend compiling any info needed to make changes, and I will pass it along.
No problem. The four above are the only ones that need to be taken off at the moment. Will let you know if I find the others.

I have asked that our database specialist change these in our database. I will let you know when this has been done.
Thanks Mike. Do you or the database specialist have the certification numbers for the other six “Second Print/Blue Foil Edition” 9.8s that were added over the last two months?
-
Hey @CGC Mike,
I have a few more teals that were marked as blue foil editions. All of these have pics attached to their verification on the CGC website so please back me up on these @RockMyAmadeus.

Thanks!

By the way…congrats to @Aaroncash for taking over #1 in the Bone (Cartoon Books) registry set! That 9.8 #1 of his was a worthy book to put him over the top.

Now the question is do I take my verified cbcs books and cgc qualified, and get them jsa “authenticated” and regraded? Anyone with a guess on label color they will use?
That’s the big question. If they use yellow with only a written notification of a “verified signature”…let’s just say I’ll be upset.
Orange seems like a good option.

I'd be okay with keeping the yellow label and adding somewhere a A (Authenticated) or W (Witnessed) to it. Any yellow label without those two letters would be understood to be pre-authentication service books. I'm not at all against a different color though if that's what they go with. Just glad they're finally getting on board.
The yellow label has become a brand to me. It means that this signature was witnessed and there’s no doubt it’s real. A single letter on a predominantly yellow label is not enough of a distinction to me and would undoubtedly create confusion in the market place. Unless these books also have a witnessed signature on them, the color has to be a different color. Still praying that this will be the case.

I'm about 2/3rds of the way through the Thorn collection. I got the hardcover, which is a really nice production. I had low expectations for the strips themselves because Jeff has been so down on them for so long but they're really good. The art is way more advanced than I thought they would be considering his experience level as a cartoonist at that point, the jokes are funny, the humor a little edgy, the narrative is engaging. I dare say I might even like them better than the comic series and I like the comics a lot.
Very glad to hear you enjoyed it. I screenshotted all the strips during the pandemic and read them all in one sitting (had a lot of time on my hands ). I’m glad no one will have to do this ever again

I know some of you purchased one or both of the OA tiers for the Thorn Kickstarter campaign and this was posted on Boneville.com and all their social media accounts:
I’m not an OA expert but it doesn’t look like Jeff lightboxed any of these which is obviously a good thing. I think everyone will be pleased
