  1. My usual $100 PAYPAL to fuel your comic book obsessions...
  2. My check engine light came on this morning and I'm like uh-oh...drove over to my mechanic and it's a broken doohickey on the manifold (2010 MB E350) and it turns out it's gonna set me back 2 grand... However...seeing my 90 just made my day more funner. I was totally convinced the ETERNALS was a 9.8/9.6 and went with 9.8 (turns out the same score for a 9.4...within .5)...moved on from that book after a minute or two and then vacillated extensively over the other 3 books...and turns out 3 bullseyes...go figure. Wouldn't have graded the MSE a 9.0 unless I saw that ET1 with the chip in Round of 96 getting a 9.4 so bumped back from 8.5 (I personally couldn't offer that book for sale as a 9.0). Anyway...headed for a showdown with Comicdey...bring it brotha!!
  3. There are 25 total possible grades CGC gives...4 before you even get to 2.0 (G to us old-schoolers). Not counting NG. So after 2.5...we have 12 possible grades up to 8.5. Nine (9.0) and up gives us 5 more grades to 9.8. (9.0/9.2/9.4/9.6/9.8) (doesn't count Ebay grade of 9.5). Let's throw out 9.9 and 10.0 as unicorns and settle on 23 possible grades. You have a 1 in 23 chance to nail a bullseye. Not bad compared to the Lottery but pretty challenging when it comes to a grading contest. Even if you narrow the grade down to a quarter of that you have about a 1 in 6 chance of nailing a bullseye. 'Dem bullseyes are tough to come by...all the more amazing when the super-graders are so accurate. My hats off to those guys, but when you get down to books that could easily be one of 3 grades (half the 1/6 percentage and now a third) Vegas will tell you your odds are still about 15 to 1. Numbers for thought...something to take my mind off the other thing...
  4. For me this round/these books were second-guesser specials...hope I nudged in the right direction...
  5. I didn't go back and look at the original bracket...I just went with what sckao posted...as far as my post/opponent...
  6. I'll trade all the remaining books...plus/minus cash for a nice mid-grade preferably 6.0 restored AF15...LMK...
  7. CONGRATS to my opponent aszumilo [62] !! I had 55. This post is primarily aimed at Newbies and those continuing to define their grading skills. I have been grading comic books pretty much all my life...with long gaps in between...but love to grade books. Obviously you look at the book initially and have a general sense of the grade...at least LG...MG...or HG...now you've narrowed it down and you have a 1/3 chance of being the right grade if you are in the right category. If you're not in the right category, go back to square one and get a grading lesson. So I figure I'm generally there, and I give 2 grades within one grade of each other...my initial grade (thought) and then the next grade either up or down. So for example with the ETERNALS book I went 9.8/9.6. Saw the chip on the corner and thought 9.4? but went 9.6. After I look at the large scans...which I find, for me, can be plus/minus beneficial or detrimental to my initial grade thoughts...I sometimes introduce a third grade...taking the nudge grade a further grade. For the other books GR I went 7.5, 8.0 and then after the large scan 7.0 and went 7.0. FAIL. For the HS book went 8.0/7.5 and picked the "wrong" grade. For the SME I went 5.0/5.5...large scans flipped me back to 4.5 (and thinking possibly 4.0 but figuring CGC will give nudge for being an older book). Went 4.5 with another near miss. So was pretty close on all 4 books...but as luck would have it no Bullseyes...and in this case a losing score in a grading contest. But still a lot of fun and still, for me, helping me know I still have a pretty good sense of grading a book. And I encourage all participants, "losers" or otherwise...there will be only one winner...to contribute to the prize thread...that's a lot of fun as well...
  8. MARCH MADNESS officially cancelled (was going to go on and be played in empty arenas). Not this one...the real one... (Didn't see your post Shark before I posted this...)
  9. One-and-done grades submitted...in this present case...in an empty arena...with no fanfare...
  10. Thinking they probably factored in the grading process and then something went awry in the labeling process...
