Silver age comics that are heating up
trmoore54 replied to rabidwolf's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Also not a big fan of the (H) on Hercules belt...doesn't make a lot of sense and kind of a nod that our readers are too dumb to know this is Hercules so we better put an H on his belt. (Which goes perhaps without saying not a big fan of any LETTER on any super-hero or villain's costume (S as in Superman)...just always seemed stupid to me). But hey they're funny books. Hope all is well Lou. And you are correct...THOR 126 is an awesome cover and somewhat unique in how it captures the entire cover with the scale of Thor and Hercules. -
Silver age comics that are heating up

Was a huge fan of Kirby/Colletta Thor issues/artwork and I know for some reason there were those who didn't care for his inking/line work. And I always liked this cover/issue for several reasons but the pose or dance that Thor and Hercules are doing I always found somewhat puzzling...did they miss? Is it like some type of face-off in hockey like "we'll start here and then when we hear the buzzer we can start beating the out of each other..." And the all-white background adds to the static nature even though presumably they are supposed to be engaged in battle. -
Hey Dave...been awhile. Hope all is well! Told Jazzman if not before we'll have to get together at next California Con/Yorba Linda (if they had it this year I spaced on it). Busy with work and family...3 grandkids in last 2 years (our first) and 4th on the way (2 oldest daughters). Contemplating retirement but as for this year depends on if my wife sells their business. Comic collecting is on the back-burner and mostly done...only real book I need or covet is AF15 and you know where that's at. Will pick up a nice restored copy one of these days. Mostly into collecting wine these days and to a little degree got back into collecting US silver dollars...so you know, always collecting something... Hadn't done one of these in a while so thought this would be fun...see how rusty I am. Will give you a call soon to catch up...

Amazing Spider-Man Collecting Thread!
trmoore54 replied to Point Five's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Amazing Spider-Man Collecting Thread languishing on page 2 without a post in almost a week??!! Blasphemous!! So with a big upswing in record sales prices for Issue 2 (if I am remembering correctly 2 $40K+ and 1 at ($49,999) let's call it $50K curious what our collective thoughts are on issue 3 in 9.0 and better. GPA Analysis only shows the Heritage sale for 9.0 Nov 2020. Per GPA most recent 9.2 $24,000/Sep 21, 9.4 $28,800/Nov 20 and Twin Cities Pedigree $39,600 Jan 21 and 9.6 $144,000 Sep 21. So we all know Issue 3 is (should be) (much?) more valuable than Issue 2 with the first Doc Ock and thinking perhaps harder to come by with the lack of recent sales. So what would we expect the next 9.0/9.2/9.4 sales to be (I'll leave the 9.6 2nd highest graded (9 graded copies) and 9.8 (2 graded copies) off as the unicorns in the mix? Census for the others (9.0 48 ; 9.2 27 and 9.4 12 graded). Here's my guess (or at least where I think they are headed)... 9.0 $60,000 9.2 $80,000 9.4 $100,000 -

Hey Billy hope all is well. Before abandoning my quest and hopes to have the same as my ASM in FF 1-20 in 9.0 I pondered completing the run with 6.0s. You know, upside-down 9s. I could put em in the box upside down and trick myself into believing I had all 9s...that was my thinking at the time at least. -
Yes Hope all is well Bob!

Hey Lou yeah it comes down to are you gonna own the book in the grade etc you want and/or ultimately get priced out and have to settle for something less. Of course it's the fun and at times the stress of collecting and achieving set goals etc. My 2 and 3 in 9.0 were the last 9.0s to complete my 1-20 run...a $13K package deal with Clay Fraser...at the time a big purchase for me and actually the biggest single purchase I ever made... -

? The ASM 3 9.0 OWW went for $20850 -
One of the problems for me (a huge Ditko fan) is that Spidey looks like he is running and not "flying" through the air...creating a pretty awkward look...and given the ability after the fact to compare the two, Kirby's Spidey just looks so much more powerful and heroic...and flying!

So that means a 9.0 (in this case an old label) is worth $18K?
