  1. Jimmy closed up shop and moved a bit further North along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill. He now operates a very small comics/cards/dvd/computer store called Chaos Comics. Back issues are from the last 10-15 years, and there's not much in the way of wall books.
  2. I'm seeking Paul Gulacy Three Stooges in 3-D covers. I will pay a finders fee of $500 leading to purchase for each of the covers. Thanks!
  3. Hi, Romain: You've already apologized publicly two years ago, and in my opinion, there's absolutely no need to apologize again. Nothing has changed the fact that Joe still owes you a commission & hasn't communicated with you & other commissioners that paid in advance. With regard to Spencer, I hope things work out and he is able to assist all commissioners. Although Michael has stated he spoke with him about your situation, I will also discuss the matter again with Spencer because I think there's enough water under the bridge to let us work together and resolve this matter. (thumbs u
  4. I think I may still have a few pieces I can dig up. One piece was from Quadrant. Don't remember the other piece, but I think I still have it. Send me a PM and I'll provide scans & details (thumbs u
  5. Is #11 the harder to find issue of the run? I searched the Heritage archives and came across one issue that sold back in 2004.
  6. Hari, no offense, but Miller is the visionary on the run of DD168-181 that you are so enamoured with and its really Frank's words, layout and pacing that is so nostalgic. I am not taking away anything from Janson (he is a wonderful artist), but if it was Janson pencils, the layout and pacing would be different, possibly very different. And I somehow doubt the storyline would be as nostalgic to you and you certainly wouldn't considet paying as much for it. My two cents.
  7. Positively no information to the contrary? Rumoured by people not informed correctly about the art? Really, Mitch? When I first saw this piece back in October, I was very interested, but needed some information in order to determine my max bid so I contacted Spencer and asked him if he could forward a few questions to Klaus on my behalf. The email conversation follows: "HIya, Spencer: The original cover art to DD190 is up for auction and I was wondering if you could ask Klaus how much of it was his work vs Miller. For example, did Miller provide only rough breakdowns (done on 8.5x11 sketch paper?), with Klaus doing finished pencils and inks? Any help would be beneficial" FROM KLAUS ... Spencer-I don't think that this was done on 8.5X11 paper as if I remember correctly, the covers were done full size- But since the cover was done on craf t-tint, Frank did the pencils on regular cover stock and I redreww it or traced it onto craft tint paper and then inked it. Frank never penciled anything on craft tint. I was the one who used that and introduced it into the DD run. Hope that answers the questions. KJ I emphasized the key bit of Klaus' response that swayed my decision to pass on this cover.
  8. clink shows a pending sale at 45k. assuming that's correct someone must have taken one heck of a haircut! I am pretty conservative on pricing and, even to me, that feels like a pretty large steal to me at that price. I really liked the cover and decided early on to bid, but I wanted to spend some time and find out how much of this cover is actually Miller. I received the information I needed to make an informed decision to pass on this cover.
  9. I'm with you, generally. However, in this case, it doesn't matter if the cover is in one piece or two pieces...it's just not that great to begin with. Sorry. I don't see how anyone who claims to be into Miller DD could call #190 one of "the 3 best covers in the run". Unless they had some interest in the auction doing well. In which case they'd be a shill. Wouldn't be the first time.
  10. I really like this cover and don't care whether its on one board or two, but this far into his DD run, my only question is how much of this is Miller vs Janson? Any thoughts?
  11. Please post the unused Steve Ditko cover if you can. To me Spider-Man just looks awkward on the cover of AF15. Here's a link to Ditko's AF 15 cover: http://www.samruby.com/AmazingFantasy/Large/AmazingFantasy15Alt.jpg
  12. Wow, I thought he did a great job on AF #15...in fact it's the only time he's ever done a terrific job on a Spidey illustration IMO...personally, I think ASM #1 is the worst rendered cover of all the 1961-1964 Marvel keys. I'm not a big Kirby fan, but I think he hit it out of the park with his rendition of Spidey in AF15. Its far nicer than Ditko's unused cover. What do you think about Kirby's Spidey in ASM #8? I think he did a nice job there too.
  13. Yes, definitely. I think it's affecting SC23 and 24 also. Anyway high grade 10cts DC are so rare, they MUST be valuable. It's crazy to see AF15 so expensive when you see the number of copy going around DC rules GL is my favorite DC character and I'm not trying to belittle the significance of Showcase 22, but I would buy 10 copies of AF15 before I purchase my first Showcase 22. Spidey just has more appeal for me, and there's no substitute because nothing else really satisfies. I think your board name kind of gives away where your allegiances lie.

  15. Anyone notice if all the Showcase 22 hype is spilling over to GL1, and impacting the price for nice copies thereof?
  16. Dear G.A.tor; Just wanted to hear your thoughts on the potential for upswing on the following books, and which ones do you think have the most room to grow in high grade: 1. 1st Deadman 2. 1st Wasp 3. Heidi, the Girl who loved the Swastika 4. Wonder Woman 199 5. Little Dot #1 6. Richie Rich #1 7. Treasure Chest issues with Crandall 'Godless Communism' stories 8. Cerebus #1 9. Marvel 35 cent price variants 10. Amazing Spider-man #28
  17. Hopefully, the purchaser checked the pages to ensure it wasn't a married copy, replaced stapes, etc...just some of the minor handiwork Gerry is known for.
  18. Gerry Ross was roaming around at SD? Incredible. The only place that guy should be in is a jail cell. + 2 from past bad mail order experience. Think Gerry was asking $2k on his coverless Whiz 1 (2) at SDCC July/10. + 3. I can't imagine there's a bigger liar and thief in the industry than Gerry. Total slimeball. I never heard of this guy Gerry Ross , what`s the deal? Back in the 70's/early 80's he joined up with Robert Crestahl to form 1,000,000 comics. If you read comics in the late 80's to early 90's their ads were in all the Marvel Comics for buying and selling via mail order. Gerry would over-grade items he was selling, and would not disclose repair/restoration on the books. Furthermore, he would not refund your money when you called him on it. The repair work was often conducted by Gerry, but I'm not certain who performed the restoration work. In the mid-to-late 80's, 1,000,000 started to franchise their operations and a family bought into the franchise opportunity here in Toronto. As part of the franchise start-up package, the franchisee was to receive $40K in back-issue comics, including several early high grade Silver Age Marvel keys. Well, Gerry ripped off the franchisees in this regard. For example, they were supposed to receive a VF copy of an early Hulk issue (#3 or 4) and what they received was a copy with a detached cover, and a multidude of like overgraded examples. All I can say is buyer beware!

  21. In case anyone's interested and has a facebook account: Subject: CerebusTV: Episode 14 this Friday Another 1/2 hour episode of CerebusTV this Friday, February 26 at 10pm ET / 7pm PT. This episode will showcase how to tell a real Cerebus #1 versus a counterfeit Cerebus #1. http://www.facebook.com/l/c8178;www.cerebus.tv
  22. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I have no desire to own this book, and judging from the final bid, I suppose others put their money in other books. I am curious, however, if folks think this final bid is high/low/about right price for this book.
  23. Hmm...I think we would have to assume a Barry Allen Flash movie instead of a Wally West Flash in order for Showcase 4 to potentially take off
  24. I've never had the desire to own this book. I'll see Harley Yee or some other major dealer at a show and ask to see their Hulk 1, AF 15, Adventure 247, but in all my years of collecting, I have never requested to see a Showcase #4. I can understand its significance as the 1st Silver Age book (although arguements can be made against it), but the Flash is a second tier DC character, and the Silver Age resurgence of Superheroes was 50 years ago and for folks in my age group (between 30-40), it doesn't mean a lot. We always had Superhero comics around, and more significantly, Marvel Superheroes. Having said all of the above, I see this book dropping several notches in desirability and relative OPG value against other books in the next few years, but that's just my opinion. Anyone think otherwise?
  25. There was. It's noted in one of the OPGs from the late 80's/early 90's. That's correct, however I can't recall if there was ever a determination one way or another to confirm if there are counterfeit #2's floating around. Maybe I'll bring my Cerebus #2's to Dave to sign. If he signs them as 'Neal Adams', then that's all the proof I need of their existance By the way, has anyone seen Dave's version of Neal's signature? It looks more authentic than Neals' own signature!
