  1. Great work. I would with all you stated in the notes. Cgc has noted facts of much lesser importance in many books, so I think your suggestion is informative and important to the collector. 2nd appearance Archie, Betsy and Jughead; 1st appearance as teenagers. Statue of Liberty cover. In which auction will you place your books? Will you resubmit your pep 23 to have the notes changed on Pep 23? Mine states only "Statue of Liberty Cover" David
  2. Any updates on this discussion? Will CGC and Overstreet change their notes regarding Pep 23 and Jackpot 4?
  3. Keep us posted on the cgc decision regarding to changing the notes to indicate that pep 23 has the 2nd appearance. And thanks for putting the effort into this.
  4. I wonder if there is a special meaning to the red titles...
  5. I left a post last week in the ask cgc thread with a link here but have not back from them.
  6. Wow. Great story. I collected in the late 70s then stopped until around 2007. Even back in 07 eBay had a lot more deals on comics then now. I bought and unfortunately sold a few fantastic four 1s and amazing fantasy 15s at that time. You could buy them raw, slab then then sell them and make some money. I can imagine what it was like in 96. I'll be watching those books in the cc auction.
  7. MagicMasonry- can you post scans of your pep 22? 23-26 would be appreciated too! What's the story behind your 22? David
  8. I bought mine as a raw 7.0 from metro around 3 years ago and had it graded a couple of years ago. We have to get CGC to change the notes!
  9. Thanks for posting this. I think most collectors (incorrectly) believe pep 23 was the third appearance. Let us know if cgc changes the notes to indicate it's the 2nd.
  10. It is! CGC did not note it as a file copy on the label, but if I resubmit it I will ask them to note it. Some other Timely file copies including a Compton stamped copy of MMC #4 were posted in this file copy thread. Both the MMC 4 and my MMC 2 have around five tiny holes indicating they were likely bound together at one time. David
  11. I spy a Fantastic 1 Yes- Ciorac's copy, formerly owned by JeffB and prior to that DCman. Although it looks like I owned those books forever since they are not encapsulated, I cracked most of them out of the slabs, including the Fantastic #1.
  12. Ed bought a couple of books from, paid quickly, excellent communication. Thanks Ed. David
  13. I am looking for: Marvel comics #1 1939 Back cover Ka-zar story pages (or parts of them) Action comics #8 back cover 1939 Thanks. David
  14. Hi. Ron is a great seller. I bought his coverless Action #8. His communication was excellent and he sent the comic right away. Thanks Ron! David.
  15. And don't forget to read the excellent Krigstein story inside (while lying on your side - I can't get this to go upright...)
  16. I had never heard of "Get Lost." They really nailed the Mad themes. Harvey Kurtzman started Humbug sometime after Feldstein took over editing Mad. For some reason, I find the 1950's Mad's more interesting and funny than Humbug. I did not like Humbug so much. I just picked up the new issue of Mad from Barnes and Noble yesterday- planned on giving it to my daughter in 6th grade. However, I threw it away after reading it. I thought it was inappropriate and mostly not at all funny. Very disappointed. Not nearly as clever as the early Mads (the first magazine, issue 23 I believe, is genius) or even the ones I remember as a kid in the 70's.
  17. Mine as well. Have owned it since the late 80's and it has never been out of my possession, so I am ready to get it back. The status changed on Friday and hopefully it grades tomorrow. It hits 20 business days on Wednesday, so it should be soon. Hoping for a 5.0. I wish the Bill Gaines sig on the first page could be recognized, but what are you going to do? It should state "Bill Gaines written in pen on the 1st page" on the label. I have a Mad#1 like that.
  18. Just got this back from CGC. The book is a solid copy- I was a little concerned about how the minor corner damage would affect the grade but am happy with the 7.0. I bought it as a raw 7.0 from Metro. I submitted it to protect it from me- I really like reading these books but this is one of my more expensive books and I did not want to destroy it. Plus, every time I would insert it back in the mylar back I would get palpatations. I had one bad mylar incident and did not want that to happen with this book. Great cover, too.
  19. Click here to see my New Directions MD file copies, along with one of the signed COA's. I would like to crack them out, but instead have opted to own a 2nd reader set. The slabs defiinitely keep them safe, and higher grade reader copies for this series are not expensive.
  20. there have been many in that same realm... heck, I know of an action 7 purchased for $20 (many moons ago)... I picked up a $12K for $3K 2 years ago...it happens from time to time where HUGE profits are available, but it is the exception, not the rule...too much information available these days, if folks bother to do the research (thumbs u Picked up these two books back in December from different ebay auctions (the MM was an underpriced BIN)... ...under $1K total (yes, that's for both books; no, I'm not kidding). Yes, good things do happen now and then (it's all about being in the right place at the right time). I guess this really is the modern version of going to garage sales hoping for the great find.
  21. Have you heard of other finds as exciting as the recent Action 10 score on eBay? David
