  1. Have any of the big keys ever gone down in value any significant amount (top tier GA and SA comics?)
  2. The 3.0 has a married wrap, though.
  3. Actually I just looked through my box and I only have one copy left. I must have sold the others at a garage sale a few years ago or maybe on the boards. And I did transfer it from a polybag to a mylar in 2007 after I shipped all my comics from my parents' house to my house. There are quite a few other comics that did not warrant the upgrade in storage bags though.
  4. I bought at least three off the rack- still have them bagged (but not boarded.) They were going to be my early retirement.
  5. Great book. I don't think I have ever seen it- did not know that is considered the 1st horror comic.
  6. I don't understand how these books exist in 9.8 condition. I posted in another thread that I bought these Byrne/Claremont books off the stand, read them carefully, bagged them, boxed them, and when I look now they are at most 9.4- most are lower. Incredible to have a 9.6 or higher grade.
  7. Thanks for posting the photo and caption from the inside of WW 2. Very cool!
  8. I had a near perfect, 9.6- 9.8 FF48 I bought at a NYC comic con around 1980 for $15 when I was a kid. Kept it in a bag in my parent's home then many years later decided to ship my books out of my parents home to my home. When I opened the shipping box I noticed the upper corner of the cover bent over with a probably 1 cm color breaking crease. I felt so frustrated that I did not care for it more, but I had just gotten back into comics and didn't really know the value of the super high grades. It ended up grading at 9.0. The crease cost me thousands of dollars.
  9. Interesting. Although I cared about the condition of my books I did not go crazy looking for every flaw at the newstand. Back then, Mint condition to me as a teenager really meant anything better than very find today.
  10. I stopped later that year. I just happened to look through my collection today and the last comic I bought off the rack was X-Men 152- December 1981. It was probably on the newstand around September of that year which is right when I started high school- 10th grade. I bought three copies of X-Men 150, one I read (many times) and the other two I put in bags. Still have them! Despite never reading them, they are no more than 9.0-9.2 in condition. I don't understand how people have 9.6 and higher comics.
  11. Madison Comic Con, Madison, WI , October 1. Anyone going?
  12. I did not find much that interested me at this con. Only two comic vendors and one or two graphic novel booths. Lots of toys, T-shirts, etc. I did hang around to see Stan Lee from a distance. So many people lined up to have him sign something. He has seen it all! I plan on checking out the Madison Comic Con in a couple of weeks. We'll see how that goes.
  13. Any comic dealers going to this con? I plan on attending. Does anyone know why Stan Lee still does signings? I can't imagine he needs the money. I'm thinking about getting a photo op with him...
  14. I agree. I have one (raw) that looks exactly like that. When I saw the 1.8 I thought, "cool!" I always thought mine was a 1.5.
  15. I like your idea. I have thought about a comic fund similar to a mutual fund where investors would buy shares into the fund and the manager would be responsible for buying and selling comics. That way individual investors who could normally not afford a six or seven figure comic could own part of one. Investors in the fund could then sell their shares in the open market, and presumably the value of the shares would rise and fall with the value of the comics. No way I could have afforded the Action Comics CGC 6.0 that sold for $317k back in 2009, but if I could have joined other investors to buy a portion of the book I would have considered it.
  16. All in all I think our group did a great job with our guesses.
  17. I would definitely contribute. I remember reading those posts when he first posted them. Unbelievable!
  18. You outbid me. I was hoping to get it for $25k. Oh well.
  19. I like the video. Always exciting to see these kinds of books come up for auction. I wonder if ebay will post scans of the inside of the book like they did for Action 1.
  20. What a classic issue! Great cover, great story! Marvel Comics in its prime! GLWTS.
