So I've been on like a 2-3 year FH binge. That's the only way to describe it. I'd love to share some of my favorites so I'll post some group shots as I pull the books together. Later issues of the titles show up pretty regularly and some of those are certainly classic books. But early FH....man those books are amazing and damned tough to get ahold of. That's basically an excuse for why I have a rather sporadic collection of them...it's the best I could do. And I'm not one to shy away from throwing a few bucks at a book, but some of those early Fights, Jumbos and Jungles....man those prices are not for the faint of heart. Anyhow, here's just a quick little group of a few Jumbos I've grown to love.

The Rockford Rangers is mine, so feel free to thrill bid or pick up a third copy.
I was always under the impression that they rolled off of the presses that way. The initial copies got the best color, then as one of the colors in the mix ran out, the colors got lighter and lighter. Guessing here, but it's likely that that red is a mix of multiple other colors. Take one ink out of the mix and you get the Fiction House Orange. I don't think it's (generally) fading or unstable inks.
FH ran a notoriously cheap/slipshod operation, so not shocked they didn't care much what the colors looked like.
Well I did manage to pick up your lovely Rockford book sir. Thank you for offering it up. I suppose that means I need to move my undercopy. I'd hate to be a hoarder. Although lord knows this book really inspires me to become one.

The FH orange has been a topic of discussion here before and it remains a mystery. Seems like the inks were unstable and could fade on their own. Later FH didn't have these properties and it's well known they changed printers. That 9.0 is a treasure and would get premium I'm sure.
Oh the premium has already been paid. Believe me. Thank you for the thoughts.

I see the Rockford Rangers 26 is on HA this week...and looking at it got me to thinking about the color variations on FH books in general and this issue in particular. I'm attaching a picture of my 2 copies of this issue and of course, while I love the red of my 9.0 copy, my question is how is it possible these books all came from the same print run? I get that colors fade over time, but this seems extreme. Would appreciate any thoughts from the FH experts in the house.

Hi all - I'm not much of a war comics guy so looking for opinions from the more knowledgeable. Was reading through a stack of my dad's old coverless books and came across this splash page which reminded me of a Fight cover. Just curious if you guys think this is a swipe...or maybe it's already a known thing I have no idea. The splash is from a book cover-dated about a year and a half after the Fight.

Congrats Dan!! That is an important part of FH history and a book that is still fairly reasonable IMO.
Even with prices going as bonkers as they have on so many issues and titles, I feel like a lot of the FH titles (Jungle, Jumbo, Wings, etc) haven't been a big part of the run-up. Which is why I'm scooping up as many as I can before they get out of my budget.

Oh my. That is beautiful. You don't see Jungle 1's in the raw so that's even cooler. The details on the lion are inspired. I have a hard time looking at anything else. Congrats!

Great book, that must have been a lovely surprise
Yes indeed. That particular book has grown on me over the years so I was even more surprised and happy.
