  1. For comparison, here is an item I purchased on eBay through the GSP - I have not yet received it. Woodhaven, NY to Ottawa is 450 miles.
  2. I think the first criteria should be that the comic has been in existence long enough to determine whether the cover has stood the test of time - 20 years at least in my books. I agree with the sentiment that the mere mention of the issue number should be enough to conjure an image of the cover in one's mind. From there, the cover should be overtly great or awful in a way that distinguishes it from other notable covers from the same period. A notable artist helps. A key storyline helps, but definitely isn't required (Batman 227, Superman 233 as examples).
  3. Off to eBay: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/224884442985?mkevt=1&mkcid=16&mkrid=null
  4. Do any international buyers know if the "Request Total" trick still works to circumvent the GSP on eBay?
  5. Yeah, even though I don't really care about wrap, my preference goes: perfect wrap > straight miswrap >>> angled miswrap.
  6. This would definitely hold much more appeal for me than buying an already signed book, it submitting a book for signature.
  7. Haven't posted in this thread in a while, and have picked up a number of books during my absence, with a few more on the way! My slow climb up the upgrade ladder for this book. Haven't received it yet, but looking forward to it!: Sorry Thanos, Batman did it first: Gosh-dang Ninjas: I love Man-Bat, and this cover: Love, love, love this one: This one too: I'm a sucker for the red Bat logo. This one has 221 vibes: One of Adams' self-professed favorites: This is the face I make when I lose out on a Comic Link auction: Courtesy of @gmeyer: When you're a DC guy, but your 2-year-old only has eyes for Spider-Man: Had been looking to grab this one at a reasonable price for a while: Have I mentioned I love Man-Bat? (Even if this cover is a little drab.): Another I finally picked up one at a decent price: Sgt. Rock? Last 12¢ issue? Savannah? Sold! I'm on record that I'm not a fan of the photo background, but that Superman pose is awesome! There aren't enough orange covers: Can't wait for my other books to arrive so I can share more!
  8. Yeah, I should have included label type on my list. I agree about yellow labels - I don't own any, and go out of my way to avoid them. I understand the appeal for others - they're just not for me.
  9. Nobody like brittle pages - not surprised. Wrap seems to be a 75/25 split in favor of wrap making a difference - seems in line with the previous thread. Surprised that everyone ranks pedigree dead last - I like the story/lineage that comes with pedigree books, and - while I won't go out of my way to grab a pedigree book - would take a pedigree label over a blue label given the choice. Interesting takes all around!
  10. I'm just happy to see how many fellow Canadians are on here! 🇨🇦
  11. Fair point. I guess I'm asking "all things being equal", what moves the needle most for you? When you have a couple of copies of the same book available to you, would you drop .5 in grade for a better wrap, etc. Just wondering people's preferences.
  12. There was a post in the spring that generated a lot of discussion about how important boardies felt a good wrap was for a slabbed book (unless it's really bad, I couldn't care less). It got me wondering what importance board members place on other factors when choosing a book. So, assuming it's an issue you want, price is right, etc. - how would you rank the following factors when deciding whether to buy a book? A. Grade; B. Page color; C. Wrap; D. Pedigree; E. Holder (old, oldest, new, custom); F. Previous pressing; G. Holder condition; Are there other factors you consider? Are any of the factors deal breakers for you?

  14. mycomicshop resets the auction end timer to 2 minutes for each bid received after the 2 minute mark.
  15. I worry about the future of the hobby, and the value of my collection dwindling over time. I don't buy books for their monetary value, but I do sometimes rationalize my increasingly expensive hobby with thoughts that I (or my children) may one day recover (at least) the funds which I put into collecting at some point down the road. I think there are fewer and fewer people collecting, and that the number will dwindle even more over time as the generations that actually read comics exit the hobby for one reason or another (cash out, age out, die, etc.). For that reason, I think the commoditization of comics - particularly slabbed comics - may actually be a good thing. I think of my slabbed books as more akin to pieces of art than actual books at this point - visually appealing, and holding some aesthetic and monetary value even to current and future fans of the characters who have no reason to read the books themselves. That's partially why I shifted the focus of my slab collection to books which I both love, and which have good eye appeal slabbed. If I don't think my book will hold much value down the road, I simply keep it in raw form, for myself, knowing I can slab it one day if I so choose (I've never been a numbered grade chaser). Definitely puts a little bit of a damper on things, but lets me fool myself into spending money on collecting relatively guilt free!
  16. 8.5 - 9.0 was my guess as well. Purchased online based on the above noted photos, and wanted a second set of eyes to confirm my estimate. Many thanks!
  17. Hoping to get some second opinions on a potential grade for this book I picked up the other day. Thanks in advance!
  18. As a Canadian? Three words: Global... Shipping... Program... Pay shipping TWICE for an item (once from the seller to eBay, once from eBay to me), PLUS eBay's brokerage fee, PLUS taxes that probably wouldn't have been assessed by Canadian customs. Kills me every time. Also, if you sell books on eBay, consider opting out of the GSP - talking with other collectors north of the border, you'll see a huge increase in cross border sales I'm sure!
  19. Yeah, I liked Doom Patrol. Wasn't as big a fan of any of the recent CW properties. I liked Smallville back in the day, but I don't consider it part of the new batch of DC offerings. And of course, DC animation has historically been pretty great. Really it's only the movies I suppose where DC is really dropping the ball.
  20. This show far exceeded my expectations. James Gunn was a huge get for DC. If only they could execute the rest of their IP as lovingly and competently as Gunn has Peacemaker...
