  3. I've been waiting a few years to find a decent copy of this book at a decent price, and finally managed it!
  4. Really love this cover. It's in my top 10 Adams covers for sure. If I was forced to choose between owning Batman 235 or TEC 411, I think I'd probably choose 235 - the cover is that good in my mind. If I didn't already have a copy, I'd be scooping this book for sure! Great wrap, and really vibrant colors on this copy.
  5. Gotta be honest, I may be most excited about Booster Gold. After seeing Peacemaker, I feel like Booster Gold is exactly the type of character that will fit right in to a James Gunn DCU. The only one I'm not sold on at all is Paradise Island.
  6. I fell like you probably don't win many auctions bidding 50% less than you would otherwise!
  7. Just checked eBay after reading your comment. The number of 9.6 and 9.8 655's which sold today is crazy!
  8. DC has been pretty much a non factor throughout the superhero movie boom. In my view, the decrease in popularity of/enthusiasm for Marvel movies has nothing to do with DC. DC was pumping out more (and crappier) stuff during the height of Marvel than they are now, and it did nothing to dampen the public's appetite for superhero movies (just as DC did very little to feed that appetite to begin with). I'm a DC fanboy, but they have never gotten their mess together, so I've relied on Marvel for my superhero movie fix. I root for Disney/Marvel. I have no expectations of DC precisely because they've done so little good. However, as bad as DC has been, Marvel has put out more bad content in the last two years than the DCEU has put out in its entire existence. And for the first time ever, I'm more optimistic about the future of DC than I am about Marvel, though that is based on the admittedly small sample size of what I view as recent high quality DC properties (Suicide Squad, and especially Peacemaker), and the recent large sample size of Marvel drek. That said, I hope I'm wrong, and that both universes get it together, and start pumping out content more akin to what we saw in Marvel Phases 1-3
  9. I don't think it's about super hero fatigue, so much as Marvel and bad movie/show fatigue. Phase 4 has been beyond meh. Marvel was always going to suffer by losing Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow in Endgame - but they have really bungled things in Phase 4. Increasing output while simultaneously decreasing quality in an ever expanding universe with no clear direction for casual viewers is a recipe for disaster. I wouldn't mind keeping up with all things Marvel if the shows and movies they were releasing were good, but with few exceptions, the content Disney/Marvel has been pumping out has been bad. There has been some great superhero content that I've really enjoyed of late. I liked Loki. I loved The Batman. I think Peacemaker may be my favorite superhero show ever. So if you make decent content, count me in. Also, I hate to delve into culture wars territory, but I do wonder how much the push for inclusivity in Marvel properties is hurting the brand and driving away fans overall, particularly male fans, who have historically been the primary consumers and drivers of superhero content. There's a YouTuber called Nerdrotic who does videos critical of what he calls the "M-She-U". I'm not a big fan of his style, and doubt we'd have much in common in terms of politics, but he does make some good points about inclusivity seemingly taking precedent over quality storytelling at Disney Marvel. There's a montage in this video of his which shows just how often of late the male heroes require saving by their female counterparts. https://youtu.be/6-iDk3Fuv6k I remember seeing an interview with the creators of He-man, and them talking about the decision which led to the downfall of the franchise in the 80's. They tied it to their decision to release She-Ra. In trying to capture the smaller market of girls who wanted to play with action figures, they alienated their primary audience of boys. Suddenly He-Man toys weren't action figures, they were dolls. It wasn't cool to play with toys your sister liked too. My son and daughter are both big into superheroes. My son Spider-Man, my daughter DC Superhero Girls - so there's room for both. But I notice with the superhero media each enjoys, there's not a lot of overlap/similarities between the characters, themes, or storylines, and it would be difficult to marry the two. Anyways, my two cents.
  10. Just posted this on another thread. A 46 year-old Neal Adams Superman/Batman/Martian Manhunter cover with only 24 copies in the census? Always loved this cover too. Don't love the purposely off-center encapsulation technique!
  11. Only 24 in the census for a 46 year-old Neal Adams Superman/Batman/Martian Manhunter cover?!?!?!
  12. Our AI overlord has spoken. In response to the following prompt: What comic book should be considered the definitive first appearance of the character Wolverine, and why? ChatGPT provided the following response: There you have it. The definitive word from our future AI master. I for one welcome our robot overlords in all of their infinite wisdom, despite the fact the above response appears to contain some incorrect info, and a seemingly contradictory final sentence.
  13. It's taken from Marvel's official website. Stan Lee wrote it on his deathbed for publication in the Overstreet Guide, based on exclusive interviews he conducted with Len Wein and Herb Trimpe. The authenticity of it has been confirmed by Hugh Jackman. The veracity of it affirmed by the Supreme Court. The spelling and grammar of my comment have also been reviewed by the editor of the most recent edition of The Chicago Manual of Style. I should also note that I am rubber, and anyone who takes umbrage with my comment is glue.
  14. The last auction was such a weird one. Prices were all over the place, and it seemed like a lot of people were basing their bidding decisions solely off the last price of each book. I was in on the Action 242 5.0 until the price started climbing - then got myself a 5.5 with what I consider more appeal from an eBay seller for less than the 5.0's $3300 sale price. I threw down a single bid increment increase on the TEC 359 7.0 to bring it to $1540 thinking there was no chance it would go for that, and won. The last 7.0 which went for $1080 had some serious issues (Cream pages, significant cover tanning), and the book has consistently pulled in well over $1500 even recently. Lastly, I was keeping an eye on a Batman 255 8.0 that ultimately went for $186! There's an 8.5 (albeit with an imperfect wrap) available on Clink's exchange right now for $124! Like, do these buyers not check Heritage, MCS, or even eBay before bidding? Like I say, to each their own, but some of the recent auction results make very little sense to me. I just can't figure out who these buyers are...
  15. Bad news, the wife not only saw our bank statement, but somehow knew to log in to my GPA account, and found out I paid well above FMV for some recent books! I need your help! BUMP!!!
  16. Not new this week, but new of late. Who says falling prices are a bad thing?! I can finally grab books I've wanted for years!
