  1. For the last year my collecting focus has been almost exclusively Bronze Age Batman and Superman, with a further focus on Neal Adams covers. I thought I'd share some observations I've made during that time to generate discussion: 1. Bronze Age Batman comics, especially Adams covers, have seen some of the run-up in value seen with all things Marvel, but to a much lesser extent. 2. Conversely, while some of those Marvel books are now coming (sometimes sharply) back to Earth, BA Batman book prices seem resistant to the decline - possibly due to Mr. Adams' recent passing, or possibly because the books remain under-valued compared to their Marvel counterparts. 3. In a lot of cases, there just aren't a tonne of BA Bats books in the registry (compared to Marvel books of a similar vintage) - even for popular and valuable books. I often hear some collectors decry the large print-runs which DC put out in the 70s, but there's little evidence of that in the registry. 4. Some books are becoming more and more difficult to find in grade, specifically books like Batman 217, Batman 235, TEC 402, and Brave and the Bold 79. 5. Some books are almost impossible to find in grade, specifically books like Batman 221, Batman 222, and Batman 241 - they just don't come up that often. That said, if anyone has a Batman 222 (8.0+) they're willing to part with, let me know! How about you other Bronze Age Batman collectors? Are you noticing any trends? Any issues you're having trouble tracking down?
  2. My opinion: Superman vs. Muhammad Ali Reality: Superman vs. Muhammad Ali Better book: Superman vs. Muhammad Ali Reality 20 years from now when no one remembers the athletic, cultural, and political importance of the incomparable Muhammad Ali: Superman vs. Spider-Man...hey wait, why is Spider-Man a white guy named Peter Parker? Where's Miles? Comics began the year Amazon launched comixology and those Marvel movies came out, didn't they?
  3. Really shopping around for the answer you want, eh? Take a hint - there's a reason you keep getting the same response over, and over, and over again. Posting the same question in a different thread isn't going to change the response of anyone with any sense. Your book is appropriately graded. The brittle pages mean you'd be a selfish fool to resubmit a book of such importance for re-grading (as CGC and everyone who responded to your other post has already told you). Be happy with your book, or sell it and try and get a higher graded copy.
  4. Reach out to the magazine's current editor, Andrea (andrea@rue-morgue.com). I was good friends with her in high school, and she's very approachable. I'm sure she'll point you in the right direction.
  5. Final BUMP and PRICE REDUCTION: Now $400 CAD / $310 USD Book is getting tough to find in higher grades - get your copy tonight!
  6. Sorry Mike. Thought I was waiting the obligatory 24 hours, didn't realize I'd run afoul of the rules. I'll be more careful moving forward. Thanks!

  8. Only 8 hours left! Current bid is a little over $300 USD, which is a steal for this book! Don't miss out!
  9. Only 24 hours left to get this book! It took forever for one in this grade to pop up on MCS, C-Link, eBay, or elsewhere - so don't miss your chance! People are buying and holding this book!
  10. Only 48 hours left! Don't let this one get away - this issue is getting really hard to come by in higher grades!
  11. I think their influence is best measured in different spheres. Creatively? Kirby, hand down. But I think his creativity, his role in early Marvel, and nostalgia do a lot of heavy lifting for his legacy. I don't think his art work and style would be remembered or revered the way it currently is if not for his early creative work. Artistically? Adams, hands down. Not too many people are trying to draw like Kirby nowadays - but everyone tries to draw like Adams. Kirby's work would look old and out of place in almost any comic today - Adams was still pumping out high quality work until recently. Is Joe Schuster more influential a creator than Kirby? He co-created Superman, without whom superhero comics might never have taken off the way they did. Is he more influential as an artist than Adams for the same reason? I think it's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. All of that said, I'll back my boy Neal every day of the week!
  12. Upgraded my copy of the above book, and need to pay for the new one somehow! This one is getting really hard to get in higher grades! Will also entertain site offers until a bid is placed. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/224966930570?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Tfx3QsY5RyO&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=Tfx3QsY5RyO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  13. Also, not a cover, but contains a lot of covers - most by Neal Adams. My comic room is a veritable shrine to the man's art...
  14. Hence the question mark! ;) I've similarly had disagreements with others about the starting point of BA Batman, but agree that #217 is it!
  15. Some more recent pick-ups: First Adams/O'Neil TEC team-up: The start of Bronze-Age Batman? (Love this cover incidentally): This book is so hard to find that I scooped this one up the second it became available. I want one in a higher grade if anyone has any leads: Gotta get this thing out of this god awful holder of completely unknown origin that the previous owner had this book in! ;) The only thing cooler than Hellgrammite is this cover! Batman being pushed out of a plane over Washington DC? If that doesn't make you want to read a comic, what cover will? Silly cover #1: Silly cover #2 (one of Adams' own favorites): That's it for now - but more to come soon I'm sure. Incidentally, looking for higher grade (8.5+) copies of TEC 405 and World's Finest 199 if anyone has one they're willing to part with!
  16. Watched it last night expecting to hate it - not a Robert Pattinson fan, didn't like the aesthetic of the trailers, sick of screenwriters/directors missing out on the essence of Batman (looking at you Nolan and Snyder). Gotta say, I was blown away how good it was. Not used to seeing a take on an early/younger Batman, but I really feel like they nailed it. Loved how outwardly and vocally averse Batman was to guns (unlike Batfleck). Loved the batmobile. Loved just about every actor in pretty much every role. Was totally fine with the runtime - felt like I was binging my favorite show (incidentally, this would be an awesome 10 episode HBO show). Between this and Peacemaker, I'm hopeful for DC for the first time in a long time.
  17. Tips for board members selling to Canadians via the boards, eBay,or other means: 1. Don't use GSP; 2. Ship via USPS. Other carriers charge Canadians brokerage fees, and always assess duty. USPS packages are processed through Canada Post/Canadian Border Services, no brokerage fees are charged, and duties are often waived; 3. Charge us MORE for the above noted services. We're used to paying more for shipping, and will happily do so up front if we have some certainty about the final cost to us, and as long as we know we're not getting ripped off by eBay, UPS, or FedEx. 4. Use the extra money you charge us to make standing in line at the Post Office worthwhile, and to offset any losses from opting out of GSP.
