  1. From earlier in the thread, the Batman Collected Adventures was nominated for inclusion on the list by @L.E. Gill
  2. Yes, given that there are quite a few different model kits currently available for sale, it's surprising that the Batman #279s showing up on ebay are predominantly low to mid-grade. I'd have expected more high grade copies to be widely available because there are so many model kits around.
  3. Ebay finds. One pack and a few that are upgrades or solid undercopies. 2022 has been a great year for upgrading my Marvel Whitmans.
  4. Flea market finds. Beaters, but I didn't have either one in my collection, so for the price I won't complain!
  5. Found a random Aquaman issue I needed at an antique store, and a couple of bullet duplicates at a flea market!
  6. Rarely do I ever find golden age comics at a flea market, so despite the very rough condition I was pretty happy to grab this bunch from one seller. It was a good day with all of the other comics shown included among my buys of the day. 4
  7. I managed to find an extremely nice Batman #279 at a flea market this summer, then also picked up a couple Monogram models (Lamborghini Diablo and 57 Chevy Hardtop) that have the mini-comic. One of the boxes was unsealed, so both copies are shown in the pic! The model shows that these bonus comics were available around 1995 per the copyright on the box. And here's a print ad mentioning the Batman mini-comic too.

  9. That's quite a collection! Congrats! What's the official max unique count known to collecting-kind? My quick stab at it shows it may be 556 unique issues that are known/confirmed per the list appearing in this thread. Counting only loose issues (no issues in sealed packs), and only those that are literally "DC Universe" (not Batman logos or Zero Hour etc) I'm nearly at 400 unique issues. And I've been at this longer than most of you whippersnappers! But I've very rarely bought issues for any premium. Although I did cave this year and spend about $20 on a Batman Adventures #28 when I had a weak moment.
  10. Fail! .5 Poor! They got the quote wrong. It should be "are too tight" not "aren't too tight".
  11. It's been a while since I've been able to find any DCUs in the wild, but finally ended the dry spell at a recent con thanks to the bargain boxes! The AOS has some corner creasing, but the rest are nice and filled a few holes in my collection.
  12. AMAZING! CONGRATS, KIRK!!!! Group pic or it didn't happen.
  13. I am trying to understand why two Modern invoices, sent in and received on the same dates, have diverged in their progress. One invoice (the smaller of the two) was graded and shipped back to me on May 13. The other? Still "Scheduled for Grading". Makes no sense...
  14. Yes, it's an extra step, and I wouldn't suggest it be done early or often. Maybe once at some point maybe a day before deadline. Most contest runners have usually done something like that. Mike's already posting counts of how many people have submitted or still need to submit. Probably not a stretch to just post a list of names instead.
  15. Thanks for running the contest. It certainly must be tons of work. These contests are a lot of fun! If I could suggest one improvement, that would be tagging (or at least listing) anyone who hasn't gotten their grades recorded about a day before the deadline. Pretty sure I took myself out of the contest because I tried to submit my Round 4 grades but it doesn't look like the PM exists, so something went wrong. I hope those at the top of the scoreboard did really well so that ultimately it doesn't matter and that'll get rid of this sick feeling. I remember with high confidence that I was off on the Strange Tales because I thought it was so sharp I went 9.4, didn't think those minor spine bends amounted to much. I don't recall my grades with certainty on the rest. I think I was about 1 off on the Sensation (what was up on that back cover at the spine?) so I went 3 or 3.5, maybe on or off by one on the War and X-Men. And don't remember what I said for Surfer, but think I was likely in the zone. So I would have gotten 6-10 points, most likely not good enough to move up and instead likely would have slipped a bit. I'll be wondering for days where my PM went!
  16. Here's an example of a pack that contains Star Trek #33, hidden in the middle, what were they thinking?
  17. Do NOT open your sealed 3-packs. They will have more value sealed. The only exception might be if your Star Wars #1 is in great condition and if graded pulled a 9.6 or 9.8. Oh, also Overstreet has never documented anything about sealed multi-pack prices to my knowledge, unless they've done so in the last ten years or so when I haven't been reading it. The second pack you list is fairly common, it contains Turok #101, UFO Flying Saucers #9, and Twilight Zone #68. Probably worth on the order of $20-$30 at most if it has the green "Comics 3/74 cents" labeling. If it's the Whitman Fun-Pac labeling it might be worth more, perhaps $30-$40. I've been tracking multi-packs for a very looong time and I've never seen the first pack you mentioned, the one containing Star Trek #38 and Lone Ranger #24. Do the books say Whitman or Gold Key on their top left corner? I suspect these are Gold Key but I'm interested to hear your response. Please do post a pic of the front and back of this 3-pack, I'd love to see it. Despite that it's likely a rare-ish pack, I'd guesstimate a value of $50-$100 for it, at most, on a forum like ebay where you might get a couple bidders to battle over it. Gold Key and Whitman versions of Gold Key comics in multi-packs just generally do not pull down the money that you'll sometimes see DC and Marvel multi-packs realize.
  18. You guys are making it rough on us collectors of these dratted variants! Particular with the back-cover variations, those are the worst! UPDATED 3/30/2022!
