  1. Per Revat's list, there are two versions of each of the following. I'm trying to confirm if the two versions are the deluxe/embossed and the regular/non-embossed issues. Let me know if you can confirm that this is true for the issues in bold - do each exist in both embossed and non-embossed DC Universe versions? Batman #515 - both deluxe/embossed and regular versions per Kirk Batman #531 - deluxe/embossed and regular version? Detective #682 - deluxe/embossed and regular version? Flash #100 - deluxe/embossed and regular version? Green Lantern #81 - deluxe/embossed and regular version? Robin #14 - deluxe/embossed? Superman: The Wedding Album #1 - both deluxe/embossed and regular versions per OWK Versus my initial post, I've corrected Batman #682 to be Detective #682. I've struck Batman #535 from this summary. For Batman #535, Kirk's comment and Revat's list indicates only one version.
  2. Here's a DC Whitman 3-pack that I first spotted a few months back. I recently got one for my collection, so here are the scans! Contents: Brave And The Bold #150 Justice League of America #166 Superman #335 (Middle) Per my notes, it's interesting to observe that B&B #150 has made appearances in three different packs. Superman #335 has been seen in two different packs. However, this combination is the only pack in which JLA #166 has been spotted so far (by me, anyway).

  4. Related to this, can I get confirmation or correction on these issues - do each exist in both embossed and non-embossed DC Universe versions? Batman #515 Batman #535 Batman #682 Flash #100 Green Lantern #81 Robin #14 Superman: The Wedding Album #1 Are there any other DCUs not listed where there are embossed vs non-embossed versions?
  5. I'm fighting (and failing) to use the Search function to find more current (updated) versions of this list. I'm quoting the first list I posted from Page 48! Can anyone find newer versions? I'd like to try to keep the list up to date with any new information. For instance, I just got my hands on Wonder Woman #90 and found that it has the "Collector Pack First Printing" notation in its indicia.
  6. Nice packs. Yep, that's JA17 in the middle per another example I've seen of this pack.
  7. Nice info, there are several packs there that I've not seen before!
  8. Oh, I have the bug, but my meds are able to keep it under control. Barely.
  9. Another bunch of Topps X-Files I didn't know existed - a four-issue Ground Zero mini (rats, I need #1) and a digest! Who knew there were Topps digests?
  10. Picked at a con for just a few bucks from a mostly-golden-age dealer. I'll take it!
  11. Spotted a few interesting paperbacks on a visit to an antique store. Didn't bring them home, instead just took the pics to share them. But the very nice condition on Untamed Darling almost sold me on that one!
  12. I have a number for Dean. I haven't seen him, or spoken with him, for what must be at least a decade. So is it still a working number? Dunno. I'll PM ya.
  13. Fantastic list! There are 2,202 Whitman version issues on the list for Gold Key issues! (assuming it's accurate, I'd be amazed if there aren't some omissions.) It would be an ambitious undertaking to even try to collect a single version of each Whitman! And then you'd also want to collect both the white and yellow Whitman logo versions!
  14. For starters, you can grab a list of DC Whitmans from the CGC DC Whitman Registry set
  15. Also got this awesome Dracula versus Zorro #2 that I needed. Now I have the complete run!
  16. I stumbled across these recently. I'd never seen them before, and didn't even know that Topps had done so many other X-Files issues outside of the main title run!
  17. The 3-pack that I've seen before that contains GI Joe #21 also contains #22 and #23. I've not previously seen a 3-pack with ASM #251 in it. There's a 2-pack that has ASM #250 in it which is paired with Thor #341.
  18. I don't track the number of occurrences of each pack found during my searches, however I first spotted that pack more than 4 years ago. So this is not the only known instance of this 3-pack. I'd offer only my observation that it would be considered fairly rare. As others have said, the 3-pack is probably more desirable if kept intact than if opened and valued on the three separate comics. Here's a pic of the 3-pack that I have saved away.
  19. I can't add any info regarding the issues in question. My collection holds only BBvUS #s 1-8. All are Gold Key editions. I've never pursued Whitman over GK in most of my Disney titles collecting, nor have I ever specifically searched for BBvUS #s 9-12.
  20. Curiously, out of about 50 nice late bronze, early copper X-Men issues I put on ebay recently, the best sellers seem to be the annuals. They deserve more respect!
  21. Not sure I'd place too much weight on these comments when Doug can't even be bothered to get the fairly knowable numbers correct, or even close. He references 1977-1979 and says there are 400+ "Direct" Marvel comics published in each of the years with 1200-1300 existing in the period. He's way off. I'm not writing an article so I'm not doing rigorous research but, by my quick counts, here are the rough numbers. "...Marvel Direct editions. They are one and the same. There are approximately 400+ comics published thus in each of these years. with an estimated total of 1200-1300 existing in the period" Nope, not 1200-1300. More like 500-600 for Feb 1977 to Dec 1979 (400 for the Marvel Whitmans through May 1979 then, what, another 150/200-ish for June - Dec 1979 when Marvel is publishing real Direct editions for every comic?). 1977: 190 Marvel Whitman issues 1978: 128 Marvel Whitman issues 1979 through May: 76 Marvel Whitman issues (June starts what we all know as the real Marvel Direct editions, so I haven't bothered to count those, I'll throw out a Sulipa-quality guess of 150/200-ish) "A few issues were not published as Early Direct editions in the period (three entire months if I recall correctly). That was probably a publisher oversite [sic] error, and they seem likely to not exist." No, he does not recall correctly. There were not a few issues that were not published as "Early Direct" editions (aka, Marvel Whitmans as I'll call them.). First, there were MANY comics that were not published as Marvel Whitman variants from Feb 1977 - May 1979. MANY! To name one large example, 29 issues of Master of Kung-Fu were published in this period and the title has ZERO Marvel Whitman variants. Another pair of examples - Howard the Duck and Godzilla were published during most of this period and have only one and two variants, respectively. Even the more popular titles have a few or many gap months. So, no, not a publisher oversight. IMHO, it was the publisher printing exactly what Whitman ordered. Second, there were NO months from Feb 1977 through May 1979 where Marvel Whitman editions were entirely skipped. There were, however, five months where it appears that Whitman ordered only massive quantities of their very popular licensed titles, but not the regular roster of Marvel owned titles. Going by cover dates, here are the months where we saw ONLY licensed titles as Marvel Whitman variants: 1978 - Jan, Feb, Mar, Jul (Jan-Mar = Star Wars #7, 8, 9, Jul = Star Wars #13) 1979 - Mar, Apr (Mar-Apr = Battlestar Galactica #1,2, Shogun Warriors #2,3) The indication that Whitman went all-in on these issues can be see by the extreme ease of locating any of these issues today, and that they can readily still be obtained in sealed Whitman multi-packs as well. Lastly, as a collector of Marvel Whitman variants, I don't think I'd agree with his blanket observation that 1977 issues are usually scarcest. However, I may be one of those collectors he's talking about, because I've ordered some of these from Doug over the years.
  22. Hey, leave some out there for the rest of us to find!
  23. Thanks! It's a great set to collect. I'll likely never finish the set in HG, but I'm enjoying the search!
