  1. I know that seller, and it looks like all his auctions are on the high side. This was a good sale for him. I had not realize these books had increased in value so much. However, is that a Whitman copy? Just looked at my copies of this book and both say "still 35 cents" in the price box. Your copies are newsstand copies, the diamond box is an example of early direct editions. Yeah, certainly possible. I bought mine from either my LCS or off the newsstand. Just don't recall direct edition sales taking place that far back.

  3. Because every time a Bronze #1 sells an angel gets his wings
  4. I have to agree. It would eliminate a large portion of the possibility for deception. +1
  5. What did I miss? That the book has been swapped out of its holder. We don't know that for sure do we? There is speculation the book may have been swapped out as there is a reported crack on the side of the slab. It may just be that the simplest explanation, a typo, is the culprit and the book should actually be a 5.0.
  6. Is that a typo or are you suggesting the label has been switched? That has to be a typo. Did they even have Canadian editions in the era when # 149 was published?
  7. I think I would have to see a youtube video of this to really believe it. Although I have tried on numerous occasions to see if it was remotely possible, every slab I have cracked has either ended up splintering all over the cracked along the side as Bomber Bob described. And even if I could pop one corner with even a slight crack, the second post inevitably destroys the slab every time (or at least made it extremely "tamper evident"). -J. Perhaps if you had read his posting you would comprehend the point he was making; Brought the slab in "directly from the cold" The colder the temperature the greater the contraction of the material, so what beaumonts is reporting is completely plausible. I read his post and comprehended it fine, thanks. There are plenty of people on these boards that live in cold climate and that may or may not have anything to do with his experience. If anything I'm inclined to think bomber-bob's results are typical and that the posts can snap back together but could easily be pulled apart again with the fingers, thus making it obvious if the slab has been tampered with, if in hand. -J. two dots of crazy glue can take care of that. Once you know the technique you can crack out slabs with your fingers with little to no damage to the case.
  8. Really? 40,000 posts in 10 years = 4,000 posts a year = 11 or so posts a day. Not all that much free time required. If you just use emoticons it is easy to do 11 posts a minute. Nah, I will try and get to 1,000 posts the old fashion way, GLWTS posts and lots and lots of passive aggressive posts

  10. Thanks, good question. I actually crack out a very small portion of my slab holdings. If I was unhappy with a submission but I really liked the book, I would deslab it and put it into mylar as a keeper. Most often on PLODs or Qualified, sometimes just because of the grade. If I didn't like the way the book was holdered, I would deslab. Example, if the book is very loose in the inner well and sliding around I figured it would be safer just to take it out. If there was a foreign object in the inner well and I didn't feel like dealing with a reholder I would take it out. Hopefully, this makes some sense ? Fair enough, sounds good. But wait, are you saying all those extraneous loose hairs and crud inside the slabs aren't suppose to be there
  11. I have cracked out many books in my CGC collecting lifetime. Most of the time I can successfully retain a reusable slab, a slab with only a small hairline crack on the side, near the post, not visible from the front. I then use the slabs to put my favorite raw comics on display. If you were to inspect these 'slabs' in hand, you would be hard pressed to notice any obvious damage. Here's a couple pics of my display stand..... That is a nice display. But may I ask, why crack out the books in the first place? I mean hey, to each his own you can do as you like, just not sure I understand why you do it.
  12. The slab is totally snug inside the frame - and the two rubber plugs ensure it can't fall out. You've got nothing to worry about  Just curious if Golden Age books or Giant size books (for example 96 page books) that are in thicker slabs would fit in those frames?
  13. +1 There are parts of this thread that remind me of political filibusters. Instead of trying to stop a vote from happening, some were trying to make it difficult for people to read about what happened. Will do - Every time I come back its 80+ new posts with about 10 having merit You're being too kind.
  14. Thanks for responding. I too would love to know when you have the book in hand Fascinating. I too would like to know if / when CGC obtains the book. Unless CGC has purchased the book already, I am not sure it is wise to state in a public form you are "in the process" of obtaining said book. The price likely just doubled. Finally, I too would also like to know if an entity such as CGC obtains a book, what do they do with it?
  15. Forums are what their members choose to make them. We still have a choice in the ultimate direction of this place. There are dozens, hundreds, or more mature adults on this forum with the capability and desire to treat others with the respect they would demand for themselves. All it takes is for them to speak, be heard, and not relent. And doesn't it really boil down to this? Treat each and every boardie with respect and kindness and just ignore them if they aren't your cup of tea. These images are immature, disturbing and unhealthy and they specifically TARGET boardies Rupp doesn't like. Creating them is unacceptable and there's no room for this type of animosity on the boards. Agreed, I just avoid those I do not like, and imagine people who do not like me (though I could never see why) avoid me. + 1
  16. For give me if this is a silly question but I just want to clarify. Is it okay for the comic to come into direct contact with the kitty litter? I was speaking more to the archival safe stuff! Not pee-be-gone kitty kat klump litter. Thank you for the clarification! (thumbs u

  18. Sorry to just burst in here...but WTF does that mean? Glad things worked out in your favour! -slym Thank you so much Slym. I am someone who needs closure on these kind of things Don't feel too bad, your not the only one who didn't know what that abbreviation meant.
  19. He would get my vote, total scumbag, for the things he said before and after the fact to DT and then to mess Andy about. + 1

  21. I will take a friendly attempt to circumvent your logic. Perhaps we can fore go yet another debate about whether this Zombizzy character should go on the PL and consider moving to a vote to decide if he belongs in the House of Shame? I know, the HOS is for egregious offenses, but Zombizzy does appear to be repeat offender. And his word does not appear to carry much weight. Some may disagree, that's fine (I get nervous when everyone starts agreeing with me) but I tend to agree with Jimmy Linguniii (even though the thought makes me feel like I need a bath, I'm joking, please don't take offense). At what point do we want to rid ourselves of characters like Zombizzy?
  22. I bought a Batman # 1 from Rupp and all he sent me was an empty box Just wanted to thank Bio-rupp for another perfect transaction (Brave and Bold # 6 & # 11).
  23. Just a quick note of thanks to pickycollector (Patrick) for another smooth transaction (JIM # 122, Jumbo Comics # 121 and Beware the Creeper #1). As always, shipping was fast and the packaging was excellent! Thank you sir! (thumbs u
