Maybe I need new glasses but I can only see one small defect on the FC that is no worse on books graded over 9 by CGC. Aside from some marks on the BC, what is the rationale for grading this as low as 7.5?

There are a couple spine tics on the FC, the biggest being the one on the bottom in the black, the other few are very hard to see as they are in the yellow.  All the back issues I think a C&P will take care of mostly so yes I was quite surprised too at all the 7s and 8 being tops.

One thing I don't see much in PGM threads and even though I'm new I'm guilty of as well so I will try to change myself.  I think adding some context or narrative to the grade helps us all learn and understand better as opposed to just throwing the grade out.

I'm counting 5 or 6 tics along the spine to go along with a bc that looks pretty dirty to me. Im also seeing some waviness along the left edge of the bc and a nice size crease that looks like it can be pressed out. Also, on the lower half of the bc by the name Howard Sanden of Minneapolis there is something weird going on there.

That being said I think this is a beautiful copy and the grade I'm giving is what I think it looks like it would get before a clean n press.

    Hoped that helps.

That actually helped alot thank you for elaborating.  Also there was a disconnect because I had written to factor in a clean and press as I was planning to get one, so I figure that would knock out a good amount of the dirt, wave and crease issue.  But totally follow the grade then if you're including all that.

One of my favourite covers of ASM. I love this book.

Difficult to fully tell off just those two images. It certainly looks good on what I can see.

Around 6 to 7 but would need to see more.

What are you all seeing that I'm not here? Must be something on the back, because the front seems well above a 7, not being combative, honestly just curious what you are all seeing to ding it that much so I can learn what maybe I am not looking for close enough.

    Thanks.

  5. Hello,

Here is my ASM 55.  Front is very clean, and the back i think most of the defects will be helped alot by a press.  However on the bottom left about 2/3 of the way down there is something going on that I don't quite know how to describe.  It's kind of like a drop of water or something got there at some point and dried out.  That's the hangup for me as I don't know how to account for that.

Would get it P & C as well so I guess factor that in, I think it would help out a good amount on the back.

    Thank you in advance.

  6. Hello,

Here is my ASM 23.  Worst defect is the front bottom right crease.  I believe the grade is all dependent on how that is considered, but I'm not sure how to account for it so looking for advice.

Would get it P & C as well so I guess factor that in, I think it would help out a good amount on this book.

    Thank you in advance.

Another thread that I am amazed on the grading.  That’s a 1/2” color breaking crease.  7.0-8.0 is the debate on this book.  That’s a collective of the forum off by 100% value.  Amazing.

Thanks for your P.O.V though I think 1 crease like that dropping a book to a 7 is extremely strict. But always good to have contrarian views to temper expectations. The crease size you're off on a bit.  It is about 1/4 inch if that changes anything for you.

That maybe he a production issue. Regardless, that should be able to be pressed out or at least improved.

I think it's a 9.0 / 9.2 after a good press. Really tight book. Some stress by the staples, buy I don't see anyone else.

So if the printer's crease thing theoretically would not count what do you guys see that's holding it back? Only other thing I see is maybe the bottom part of the bottom staple on the FC has a slight tick and maybe the top left corner on the front, but I believe that's just a bindery issue, which also shouldn't count against it right?
