  1. For those who aren't doing the additional research; Wikipedia had this interesting background about it. Unit Emblem The 9th Bomb Squadron's patch features 3 spotlights aiming skyward, as if searching for the bombers which are commencing their attack. One spotlight shines vertically, while the other two cross each other. This forms an IX, which is the Roman Numeral for 9. Thanks BZ! That's just a wonderful piece of design.
  2. That's amazing BZ. Great catch! I was looking for some more info on that beautifully designed 9th Bombardment Sq. searchlight insignia and found this image. Haven't had chance to read it yet, but it looks like a cool little blogspot.

  4. Thanks, Flee. I had a party last night with in-laws who were visiting from out of town. I received the following great DVDs as gifts. Walt Disney Treasures - Mickey Mouse in Black and White, Volume 2 Walt Disney Treasures - Mickey Mouse in Color, Volume 2 Popeye the Sailor: 1941-1943, Vol. 3 Tex Avery's Droopy - The Complete Theatrical Collection Happy Birthday BZ! That's a sweet haul. "Droopy's Double Trouble" is just hilarious.
  5. Cap #1 - Simon and Kirby - Higher grade - Nicer looking book. As for the Batman #1 - Not a fan of the dust shadow, and is that rust at the top staple?
  6. He should. That's right in his wheelhouse. See if you can't persuade him to paint it. Then he could put them all together in a Pre-Code Horror/Coffee Table/Anthology book called "Francis Bacon's Comics and Stories" or something similar. (I'm serious. That would be a cool book, man)

  8. I'd buy this book in a heartbeat. It's just so wonderfully absurd. Thanks for grabbing these BZ.
  9. Nice one! Thanks Scrooge! Delacroix is, by far, one of my favorite painters. (John Singer Sargent being the other) Great stuff.
  10. Made it a clickable link. Should be an appropriate compromise. No worries (thumbs u Good solution. There's a Beckmann painting at the Art Institute of Chicago that's in a similar vein. It's interesting to watch people's reactions to that piece. "Am I really looking at this?" Yes, as a matter of fact, you are. So "Real Fact Comics" makes sense. But dang man... you're a braver soul than I.
  11. Delacroix ! That's great stuff Scrooge. Can't wait to see what other combinations you come up with. Here's a Delacroix that could have been a cover for "Two-Fisted Tales". (from www.artic.edu )
  12. Kudos to JZrarities and shiverbones (long over due, my bad Matthew) for the fast payment. Thanks guys, it's much appreciated!
  13. Art commissions generally don't work that way. I was under the same impression. However, the previous poster thought otherwise......I guess he feels it is the same as getting your roof shingled by the folks in the gypsy caravans who follow hail damaging storms across the USA. I am more a business man/ engineer than art major. I use logic not bs.You don`t do the work, you don`t get paid. Simple as that. First of all, it sucks that Wrightson Fan hasn't gotten his sketch. I hope it works out. With that said, keep in mind that traditionally artists are the first to get hired, and the last to get paid. That's why you establish a payment structure on a commission. It's half up front, half upon delivery, and the first set of corrections are free. You're an engineering major? Do you expect to be paid only when the designs are complete? If so, prepare to be burned. If you freelance for any period of time, you (the freelancer) are going to get screwed over. That's why you get paid up front. There are too many bad deals floating around out there.
  14. Says who?? I read something to that effect a while back. It's a lie detecting technique. A right handed person will look left before telling the truth. It has something to do with accessing parts of the brain that store information. Take that for what it's worth. It may carry just as much water as phrenology. Then there is "The heart is on the left" thing. Looking left here may not indicate "truth", it may indicate "love". Or the third possibility is: Jimbo just thought it looked cool.
  15. What medium is this piece? It's got a cool Chuck Close meets Clyfford Still thing going on.
  16. They're a recurring theme in my paintings.....they represent omniscience, quantum mechanics, and the collective subconscious. I've also got a thing for logorythmic spirals.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u That's a very cool painting Jimbo. Only those eyes in the light are looking to the "right", but from those eye's perspective they're looking to the left.(looking left = truth) Nice. The world as pond is nice too.
  17. Nicely done Marcel. Didn't she used to have a moustache?
  18. More Wally Wood interiors. Total War 2
  19. Thanks thecollectron, you too! (The Microbots is now on my want list.) Those Magnus Robot Fighters were the pick of the litter. Most of my Gold Keys suffer from major spine problems. (rolls and knicks) These books must be tough to find in UHG. Magnus 6 - The runt of the litter.
  20. Thanks tth2! Right back at ya on the Koraks!
  21. And here's my favorite cover from the Manning Tarzan run. Tarzan 160
