  1. Who knew? Not Bill, the poor sap. Speaking of EC and Bills... What if Baker had worked for Gaines? That art would have been something to see. Whenever that question pops into my head, I immediately think of Graham Ingles. Ingles' "Auro, Lord of Jupiter" is great, but his EC work is something else. Any Ingles books in that great collection? Anyway, glad you dug it BZ.
  2. Thanks BZ! Here's another story from True Love Pictorial 3 for Aman (Right on man (thumbs u ) and all the other Baker fans.
  3. Yeah, it's from TOS 38. I own the entire 11 page story. You.... wha.... really? Wow. Herriman, Schulz, Foster, Capp, Davis... Is that Raymond and Gould? That's just amazing BZ.
  4. You know what I do when I don't know like in this case: I always say John Prentice. Here's a Prentice page from the Who's Who. Compare the guy at bottom right to the main figure in the splash Thanks Scrooge. Similar noses. If it's not Prentice, both artists probably had the same reference material. Look magazine or some such. Speaking of artists, how 'bout that Joe Kubert? From this book
  5. Wow! Thanks BZ for the Sheena! And thanks BB-Gun for all the Powell! Absolutely, Powell is great! Still working on my Cave Girl collection. Two more issues to go. Here's the first story from True Love Pictorial 3. The art looks familiar. Anyone recognize the work?
  6. Thanks for the info FlyingDonut. (thumbs u I had no clue. BZ, I have scans of the first two stories. Here's the cover story "The Sisters" by Baker. That guy could draw.
  7. Imageshack take 2. This cover is an amazing piece of drawing. Swiped from the "Wizard of Oz", ( thought it might be from "Singing in the Rain" at first, but the book is from 1946, so it's Oz.), the brush/quill work is stunning. I haven't checked the GCD, but this story looks Beck-ish.
  8. Sorry BZ, it's just the back-up feature. Apparently "Delecta" is in all the books in the run. Unfortunately, this is the only Don Fortune I own. Impulse buy. $20, couldn't pass it up. Been having photobucket problems, so I'm trying imageshack. If I can suss it out, I'l have a Don Fortune story to share. Also, any interest in some GA romance stories? I've just picked up copies of True Love Pictorial 3 (100 pg giant with Baker and Kubert stories) and Diary Secrets 16 & 17. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but the Baker stories are top notch. (imageshack test)
  9. Nice one Scrooge. Happy be-lated anniversary BZ! Love this thread. I was cleaning out the old photobucket account and found the complete CC Beck "Delecta of the Planets" story from Don Fortune Magazine 5. I've posted a few pages before, but not the whole shebang.
  10. Slightly elongated figure, and highly realistic illustration work. Lou Fine?
  11. Thanks Scrooge. That's great. Copying the masters is a time honored tradition. It's one of the first things they teach you in any art class. (The second? "90% of the people sitting in this room will never make a living from their art." ) This guy has interesting take on the subject. http://www.geraldking.com/Copying.htm
  12. Agreed. There are some cool story ideas in those old Justice League books. It's surprising they don't revisit them.
  13. Unfortunately, no can do. Sold my Dalgoda run years ago. For some reason I've got a Steve Parkhouse Corben-ish image stuck in my head. It was a guess.
  14. Very Cool. (thumbs u That quote is really familiar. Shoves it in the guy's face right? The Bojeffries Saga from Dalgoda #8?
  15. Secret Agent X-9 = Alex Raymond I'll admit it, that's a pretty lame clue. Thanks for doing all the leg work on that question.
  16. The 1959 hunt for the Martian Manhunter is the unofficial first adventure of the Justice League. Everybody and his brother is in this issue. Roy Raymond doesn't do much, but Rex does find the Martians. (from JLA 144)
  17. Right issue, wrong characters. Quality wouldn't be about that group. They're both from DC. This should give it away: Secret Agent X-9 and Sub-Mariner's battle cry
  18. Thanks Scrooge. An eBay keyword search gave me four of them. The 5th? Tale of Two Cities has to have a guillotine on the cover. Next Question: Roll Call Superman Batman Robin Wonder Woman Flash Aquaman The above characters all took part in the "unofficial" first adventure of the Justice League. Name the two characters missing from this team. Now, if I were to give a quality clue, it wouldn't be about this group. However, a little sleuthing, believe it or not, should fetch the answer.
  19. Tales from the Crypt 27 Tales from the Crypt 44 Horrific 7 Riot 1 Classic Comics 6 - A Tale of Two Cities
  20. Bummer. The answer is on page 54. Anyone got 'em yet?
  21. Sure thing. He's in issues 85-87 of Showcase. Haven't read them, but it looks like the Kubert character's situation is similar to the other Firehair's. (from GCD)
  22. Nice job guys. (thumbs u Had to double check to make sure you weren't all correct. The GA Black Canary was originally drawn by Carmine Infantino, and the modern Black Cat was a Keith Pollard creation. Take it away Zonker.
  23. Thanks to Rick for doing all of the heavy lifting on that one. It pointed me in the right direction. Next question: This should be an easy one Different characters, same name. Her first appearance was drawn by Lee Elias, but Joe Kubert drew his. What's the name?
