Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
ion comics replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Similar thing happened to me at Coliseum of Comics way back in 2010. Was vacationing in Orlando and had some down-time. Stopped in CoC and found a Dreamwalker #0 in the dollar bins. What were the odds. -
Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

I don’t mean to sound condescending but who is forcing any collector to purchase a $500 “pump ‘n dump” comic that was $5 a week before? Isn’t speculating on comics (or any collectible) a gamble? I personally have had busts before but those purchases were all on me. Not trying to start an argument.....just a discussion. Happy collecting! Meck -
ion comics will be set up in usual spot. Will have 9 long boxes and a wallboard full of Copper/Modern comic goodness! Meck

NOW VENOM #1 Gabriele Dell’Otto Color B&W Secret Variants
ion comics replied to nixnix's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
I just received my Venom Dell'Otto books (Color and B&W). Both books had a noticeable spine dent/crease on the front cover (which I can live with). There was an additional flaw, however, on the B&W copy -- small transverse dent/crease in lower right corner of front cover. Its tough to see if this dent affected the interior pages (since I have not yet removed comic from the polybag). Strange thing is, the backing board inside the polybag does not show any corner damage, so it's possible the comic was dinged up even before it was sealed in the bag. I contacted Frankie's Comics immediately and inquired about an exchange. They returned my e-mail within a few hours (so I am very impressed by their prompt customer service). Unfortunately, they had no additional copies to process an exchange BUT they did offer a full refund once the comic was returned. Still mulling over what to do. I hate returning books. Meck -

Wouldn't ASM 252 be considered the first symbiote? I know issue 258 reveals that Spider-Man's black costume is really an alien, but doesn't that revelation create a retroactive historical fact? Inquiring minds wanna know!! Meck -

I'm curious......if you were the owner, how would you have handled it? Meck

Not trying to start an argument but can you please tell me WHY this comic store owner is scum? Granted, he should have waited until the customer left the store to price and display them (that would have been the considerate thing to do). But he did offer a discount. Could it have been more? Absolutely!! Don't get me wrong, I would have felt a bit slighted if I was in the same position (which I have been in before). BUT.......when you go into a situation like that (i.e. trying to purchase unpriced comics), 9 out of 10 times you are going to have the store owner determine FMV. It sucks doing homework for others, but that's the price you pay (pardon the pun), in this type of situation. Besides, the store owner has just as much right to make a buck as we (the collectors/flippers) do. Just my Meck

OT-- Anyone have a copy of Contest of Champions #1 (Yu variant) with a PURPLE background? I thought all copies had a blue background but one of my copies is distinctively purple. Not trying to create a "variant of a variant" scenario; was just curious if anyone has seen this anomaly. Thx! Meck -

$60 was definitely lower than the prices on eBay at that time....by about $20. Meck

I'm guessing he has about 700-800 copies remaining. Of those, he would probably hold back a few hundred to deal with returns due to damaged copies. The rest he will probably sell at cons. My opinion, of course! Meck

Enormous ! How big will it get ?
ion comics replied to the authority's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Call me crazy, but if you're gonna mention Hughes, why not give Milo Manara a shot at a cover? Check out the variant cover of Savage Wolverine #2!! Of course, you should avoid any and all "butt-in-the-air" poses!! Meck -

Curious what people think Mondo #3's collectible relevance is. The Enormous preview, (inside) is a preview of the Image Treasury edition of Enormous (not 215 ink comic). And on top of that, it appears to have been published a month after the Treasury was released. Thanks in advance. Meck -
Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
ion comics replied to fastballspecial's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Using your "trick" list (1 through 6), I can honestly say all I care about is Item #1. As far as deception is concerned, nowhere in my BIN listing ($14.99), does it say that DC Currents #85 is a first appearance of Preacher. Nor does it contain language to "woo" the buyer into purchasing the book. And finally, the price isn't 5x that of Preacher #1. Not trying to start an argument. Just clarifying what that listing really represents. Oh...and CopperAgeKids -- you should have splurged on shipping and bought my copy instead! Meck -

I'm a bit confused with the reaction to the Spider-Woman Manara variant. Were collectors thinking this was going to be a virgin cover (no logo)? If not, then where else could Marvel put the logo? Her body pretty much covers (vertically) the entire cover. Sorry for any ignorance on my part or if this was previously answered. Meck -

Oh no!!!! We have another controversial cover in our midst. Wonder Woman is "presenting" herself to the Sun. Hopefully the title of the comic is plastered right in the middle of the page, covering her unmentionables. Not sure about the sun spots on her supple.....nevermind. Meck -

Perhaps a better comparison is with Gambit (Uncanny X-Men #266 and Uncanny X-Men Annual #14). Meck
