Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

The Foundation (Boom Studios). P.S. Philly in one week! -
I debated whether to post my opinion on this topic. I'm not trying to add fuel to the fire. I don't know Shark, but I did talk to the seller a few days ago inquiring about a similar order. It was quite cordial and after the seller explained the situation, I thanked him for clarifying the process and that I was looking forward to receiving the comic. Having said the above, I think if Shark replaced: "It's been over 3 weeks and I STILL haven't received this comic yet. So where the hell is it???" WITH: "Sir, I'm inquiring about an order I placed with you on June 27th. Can you please tell me if you have started the shipping process on your orders and approximately when my order will ship?" This issue would be a non-issue. It's amazing how a little respect for others goes a loooong way. Shark, as I previously stated, I don't know you. You're probably a good guy. But you kick-started this whole thing off in the wrong direction. I don't think the seller is scamming you or anyone. If anything, I think he is trying to please everyone that ordered from him. However, I think he is overwhelmed and trying to do the best he can. I'm sure he has learned a lot about a venture like this and, should he decide to do it again, will incorporate additional efficiencies to make the process smoother. I, personally, do not think this seller should go on probation. Not based on how this all started. Meck

Strange......the Hastings website doesn't display an "Out of Stock" message for their Enormous variant. However, I am unable add copies and there is an icon that says "Add to wish list". I guess they are sold out.....yet again! Meck -

I'd slab that book just the way it is, get a 0.5 CGC grade, advertise it as the lowest graded copy in the census and then sell it on ebay for $200. -
Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay

Just like everyone is hoping to own the next Walking Dead #1. There isn't always rationale behind comic speculating. At least Superman Adventures # 5 didn't comic out last week. Explain how a MONTH OLD comic can be valued at $100 or even $50. It's the nature of the collecting "beast". One can either poo-poo it or ride the wave.....while it lasts. Meck -

This may be a stretch but perhaps X-Factor 23 should be considered the 1st Appearance of "Death" (as one of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse). Don't recall if the name "Archangel" was used in issue 24. I am assuming it was. Meck -

Only flaw in that logic is as the CGC census rises for 9.8s, the value of this book will most likely decrease. This of course begs the question: will demand be strong enough to even warrant submitting this book to CGC? I just can't see it. The DKR movie already introduced Bane and "replayed" (partially) that back-breaking storyline. I think this ship has sailed only to return maybe in another 25 years. I'm not sure of the print run of Batman 497, but I think Spawn 1 (even at 1.7 million copies) is a better "Rule of 25" bet than Bats 497. It's a first issue from a relatively new publisher (at the time) who had rock-star artists cranking out (in hindsight) comics in the "speculative" age. All the above, of course, is IMHO. Meck -

Not to deny the glory of Hellblazer #1 but Mycomicshop.com typically yields a significant premium over other sellers on ebay. Hopefully those prices (in those grades) will inch upwards for all sellers. Meck -
Superior Spider-Man books were in superb condition! Safely packaged! This Seller is the BEST!!!!! Thanks! Meck

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
ion comics replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Hey Whet, sorry for the dig!! I feel your pain. There are some dealers who you can disclose information to without negative repercussions and some you can't. I typically see the good in everyone but when it comes to buying comics, I kinda lump most dealers into the "can't" category and buy first, disclose second. And disclosure usually only occurs if I am being questioned about a particular purchase. Of course, if you need any tips, my disclosure fee is only $5 per! Meck -

TWD TV SHOW--Offical Discussion Thread
ion comics replied to dhurley's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
My bad! I missed the first 5 minutes of Talking Dead so I did not see the introductions of the guests. I just assumed they were comedians. Anyway, I also agree with you that TD breaks the "doom and gloom" of the WD episodes, but just this once I was hoping they would treat this particular one with a bit more respect. Had the two girls been killed by zombies instead, I could see TD showing some comedic light-heartedness, BUT this episode wasn't about zombies killing the living. It was about the living killing the living and unfortunately it involved children. Very heavy stuff. This was even a full notch tougher than when Lori died. It will be tough to match this episode for sheer emotion. Carl -

Talking Dead was pretty somber too. Not sure why they had comedian guests on last night's episode. I know WD is "just" a TV show but I thought under the circumstances of the episode, Talking Dead could have taken a night off from the comedic shtick. It appeared as if Melissa McBride (Carol) took the episode pretty hard. She gets placed in many complex scenes on this show. Tough scenes. But I think she's the best one to deliver all of the emotion. It's one thing to "kill" a zombie kid (Rick did it twice). It's quite another thing to kill a kid in cold blood (regardless of the situation). Not saying it wasn't the necessary thing to do but it's tough to watch and really placed a stamp on the tough world that these characters live in. Meck -

It baffles me why Avengers 181 is hotter than Marvel Premiere 47. Scott Lang appears in only two (very uninteresting) panels in issue 181. But the masses have spoken. Meck -

For me, it's 3 out of the 5 reasons you listed: 1) Cover art 2) Speculation 3) Thrill of having a modern book that has the potential to go for big bucks. Meck -

Don't mean to downplay the significance of Bats 28, but I'm looking at the Wonder Woman 28 (Steampunk cover), from a different angle......think Superior Spider-Man 20 (Campbell Variant). Both covers have the "It" factor in their favor. Meck -

If it bombs, it won't be for lack of advertising on Marvel/Disney's part. They know exactly what they are doing. I was skeptical when I watched the trailer for the first time, but (after another 100 viewings) I now get it. Meck -
