A better question is why do adult male collectors buy photocovers?  For that, you'd have to ask me and @Bumble Kitty.  It's an acquired taste, shall we say, not natural to guys that grew up on Marvel superheroes.

The best way to answer this question is for me to post some photocover romance books over the next few weeks. Some of the covers are quite interesting and give insight into the specific culture at that time.  Plus when I picked them up, they were quite affordable.  Not like today with the Promise Collection books.

and here are the Promise romance to date.  It's beginning to look like the kid was more a Church type of collector, buying books because that's the mission, having not much to do with genre preference.  I find it hard to believe a male teen in that period would be "into" romance books on the basis of they were just so awesome!  And romance photocovers?

As we know, romance photo covers are generally slow sellers (except for the few salacious covers).  I wonder if these Promise books will bring nice prices or stratospheric prices.  Your information might put a crimp in my buying at the Torpedo Con. hm

I said “dressed skimpily for cosplay”. Get it straight.

From my experience, most women and men should wear more clothes when engaging in cosplay.  Spandex should be treated like thermal underwear -- keep it hidden by wearing more clothes.

Maybe this is a reason why my eyesight is no longer 20-20.

My official wild guess as to the meaning of the pedigree name is that someone made a promise to keep buying books for someone during their absence, only that person never returned.  That could explain the pristine condition of the later books vs the lower grades on the earlier ones.

Several people have privately teased at some awesome backstory here, but have otherwise been tight lipped...can't wait to see the reveal from HA which will happen soon enough.

I'm glad to hear that.  I was afraid I would have to wait for the Pedigree book to read about the backstory.

I'm actually even more surprised at the My Love Life #7 6.5 for $802, flabbergasted at the First Romance #1 9.8 going for $2,050, and the Movie Love #8 9.0 going for $1,261 - that's beyond shocking.

I know compared to what's going on out there these numbers are chump change - but in my world...it's real money.

I was going to bid on the First Romance 1 and Movie Love 8, but...well, the only thing I can say is...

  6. A big "thank you" to inaflash for setting up the show!  There was no charge for parking, tables and admission.  He did it on his own.  If there is another show, the wife and I will be there.

The best part of a small show is I had plenty of time to look through each box and talk to everyone.  That was the best part of the weekend -- the conversation and reconnecting with friends and boardie's.  Boy, did I ever miss that.  Yes, I bought a nice stack of books.  But that is secondary.

    Ken, thanks again!

  7. Las Vegas Mini Con 2 is in the books!  Mrs. Bumble Kitty and I had a fabulous time and I am so glad we made an effort to attend.  Here are a few pics of our time in Vegas:

We had a small boardie dinner Saturday night at a Mexican restaurant.  The food was very good, but it was not authentic Mexican food, as a few of us ordered water and none of us got sick.

I think comick1 is practicing his ability to control fire.

Hello everyone. The convention is being held at my business in a warehouse space that has high ceilings, double roll up doors and lots of ventilation. Everyone will enter and exit through a roll up door and masks will be required while inside the building. There is plenty of free parking on site. No admission charge. Bring books to sell, trade, or just show off. I hope this alleviates any concerns. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Will you be offering any of your nice EC books as door prizes?
