  1. There are dual material erasers with one end for pencil (white) and one for pen (black incorporating a fine grit of some kind) so the pen end could work in this case.
  2. Welcome to the boards. What we don't know from your post, is what these books are and what approximate grade they were prior to submission. If for example, you submit a Golden Age book that is so fragile that pressing may result in a disaster, then it would be sensible for CCs to decline it for pressing. Really bad creases could still present as creases, even after pressing. The full length cover crease sounds like a subscription crease. They can be quite stubborn and break colour. Pictures of the books before you sent them in would help here.
  3. Looks good for 6.0 but with the soiling and evidence of a readers crease I wouldn't go any higher. Nice book and some great art in the first story!
  4. For all your description of a muck encrusted mockery of a comic book, it looks an easy 7.0 to me.
  5. @Low Dollah Fantastic find, thanks! Exactly the sort of detail about comic creation/production that I love to read. (And just typical that Neal Adams was at the epicentre!)
  6. Wow! Can you recall where you read it as info like this gets me salivating to know which book we're talking about here.
  7. Not sure that's necessary, I'm sure it will cease to be active pretty fast once you repost in that forum.
  8. I had more collecting fatigue during the highest price years, since I couldn't see myself being able to afford any of the books I still wanted even in lower grades. Although prices haven't dipped much yet in real terms, since sellers don't want to lose out, I can at least find a few relative bargains now. These are just comics after all, they're not made of gold! I think prices will stay stubbornly high for a while yet. By the time some sellers are willing to come down, other folk will be too preoccupied with keeping a roof over their head to even think of buying such luxuries as comics.
  9. Can't comment on whether this book is/is not a 9.8 candidate after a press without seeing the whole book, front and back. However that looks a pressable defect. Why not try your hand in the "Please Grade My...." section of the forum? Please read the etiquette / posting rules guidelines for that sub forum first!
  10. Looking at this again I've weighed in a bit low. Revising my grade to 5.0 as is, to 5.5 if it cleans up well. It is a solid enough and attractive copy. That split is the defect that knocks it down from being a 5.5 or 6.0 as is. (I try not to be swayed by other folks grades before offering mine. But then when I read others comments and reasoning, it's hard not to reconsider my own assessment!)
  11. Won't pretend to be an expert here, but GA books get a slightly more lenient eye when being graded. At CGC anyway as far as I can tell from these boards. Frankly I wouldn't argue the grade with the seller. It's a pretty nice looking copy and you have to expect some age related defects with a book this old. I would explore the price angle without querying the assigned grade. Otherwise it can look like you're saying the seller can't grade or is trying to deceive. Not the best start to any trade you want to come off well from. Hope you work out a deal, it's a handsome book!
  12. 4.5 or 5.0 best, with that long diagonal crease FC and creasing BC. Bottom staple placement not the best either, leading I'm sure, to some reading related wear to FC in that area, but not visible in photo.
  13. I'm at 1.5 to 1.8 seeing as the spine looks like it's pretty well worn, plus the other damage too. How much daylight visible along spine when cover held open to the light? I'm betting lots. Still a very nice looking book!
  14. Would be 8.0 but for the stains and staples themselves. I'd bust this down to 7.0 I'm afraid. It's a ticking time bomb for more migration of rust.
  15. 7.0 just. Lovely fresh looking copy, very handsome!
  16. Weighs in around VG for spine splits of 1/2 to 1 inch but as the rest of the book is above a VG I would say overall should see 4.5 for this copy. (By the way, a Thor would get hammered for this defect but a Conan would probably be pole-axed.)
  17. Anyone mind a random joke tossed in to bump the thread? I say, I say. No wonder I never get good grades on my silver age books: I bought them all in the Edgewear Road..........
  18. Good point: This one has quite a bad mis-wrap so there will doubtless be better presenting examples.
  19. 4.0 for me, not even 4.5 with all the creasing and edge wear on FC.
  20. I'd be more concerned about the chunk out the top of the spine!!! That line isn't worth worrying about. What grade has been assigned to this copy? And by which company?
  21. Still enough new young fans to get sucked in and bled dry for the tail of the comet to continue for a while yet. Slow decline is my best guess.
  22. Can I ask who is the "you" in your question? If it's CGC there is an ask CGC section of this forum, and that would be the best place to pose this question.
  23. I feel this thread is not complete without the botched restoration of the Ecce H O M O (won't let me use that word,) fresco, sometimes referred to as the hedgehog Jesus: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23683976
