  1. What hasn't been mentioned is whether the missing last page affects story in any/many/all cases. If stories are complete and only text page/ad page(s) are missing, that would make a difference to desirability. Having a full front cover is a huuuuge plus.
  2. I bore myself sometimes with woulda coulda shoulda thoughts! I have enough to be thankful that I did buy to mostly, mostly keep those thoughts at bay!
  3. Is that a 'to do' list or a shopping list to the side? Copyright condom being the first item and finishing up with vanilla wafers. Weird. I think we're looking for someone innovating rubber products.
  4. But only the real thing will still smell like it after 30 years. Fakes would soon revert. But I'm glad it's got you thinking about it.
  5. What stands out here to me, is Captain America 100 for a dollar (limit 2 per order) Wow!!!
  6. I read the neg feedback for this seller. Fancy a 9.8 having a spine tick!!!
  7. It's a very strong cyan colour. Almost certainly from the print process. Happens with other colours too, there was a magenta blob we had some fun with recently. Can't recall the exact location of that thread but similar situation. Don't stress it. Counts as an artifact and won't affect grade.
  8. How do they distinguish between foreign and domestic rust? That seems a very lenient grade. I was firmly at 6.5 including a bump for GA.
  9. Ironic don't you think that CGC decline the chance to hide away a magazine they label explicit.
  10. Ditch the tape. When you're pressed for time and craving a quick hit before bedtime, tape can be enough to put you off. Not sure if I would put them in a pile but removing the tape may be enough to make quick casual access more of a pleasure. Isn't it all about the pleasure?
  11. Micronauts. Never could warm to ROM, especially since I felt Sal Buscema's artwork was letting it down. Now those little Micronaut characters were fun!
  12. I live in the present insofar as I still brush my teeth and use the toilet when I need to (occasionally even when someone else tells me I need to,) but for the rest, I live in the past where comics are still on newsprint.
  13. If the first bid price isn't too high I'll often put in a bid. Don't expect to win many of those but you always get lucky eventually!
  14. Just read the plot in the Wikipedia entry and it sounds quite a hoot. Would come across as modern with its very dark themes!
  15. It's a question that's sizzling under the surface in so many threads on these boards, so it's good that you've come out and asked it straight. For me, on a strictly limited budget, it's all about the aesthetics. I have lovely looking 3.0s and some not so attractive 6.0s so if a book has the right gloss, been stored nicely but a little bit of wear I'll often take that over something with sharp corners and ink transfer, to take two random examples. I feel the chasing down of 9.8s is a very narrow path to follow, but then some of the arguments stated above are quite compelling, so I can see the sense in certain cases. Especially if an opportunity presents right now.
  16. This looks fine as a book to keep raw but check the response to the negative feedback on the Groo lot. Who does that? Who is mad enough to get the books back from the wrong buyer (!) then send them free of charge to the right buyer, after you've refunded them? Not sure I believe that. The other neg is about poor packaging. Best avoid.
  17. So Stan comes to merry olde England, and we put him in a cellar.......
  18. I hope you'll share any interesting morsels gleaned from your perusal. (!) I fondly remember my trips to FU back in the late 70s. Stupidly I never bought anything really worthwhile by today's collecting ideals, but I was happy with my bag of comics on the train home afterwards. I took in as many comic shops as I could in the day. Vintage Magazines (expensive) Mega City Comics and others. Fantasy Unlimited was my favourite though.
  19. I'm glad you went off topic just then Robot! Now, if you collected together in a big box all the comics from the hiatuses (or whatever the plural of hiatus is,) then strained yourself picking it up, would you get a hiatus-hiatus-hernia?
  20. Looking at this book had me down a rabbit hole on this series, starting with MCS who give detailed info on contents of each issue and ending up with Jay Scott Like, who drew stories in the 1950s that ended up being reprinted in Our Love Story. So thanks for posting! Issue 2 has by far the best cover in the series for my liking, in terms of design and colour.
  21. You hit the nail on the head. Since slabbed, graded copies are now detailed in a census, they have become a specific commodity and have helped define the population of available books (to a degree at least,) and helped refine 'the chase' for many collectors. It's created a rarified atmosphere for those in the market for specific books.
