  1. If there is a thread on the new reporting requirement, I did not see it so apologies and point me to it.

I assume consignments are not affected by the new requirement.  Not that you avoid paying taxes on profits from consignments.

And yes I know this is best addressed to a tax expert but just curious if anyone has thoughts.

So I consign a book and and the winner pays with either PP or Venmo, the consignee is the payee and in no way is the transaction passed to the to the consignor?  The consignor wouldn't receive a 1099 if transactions over year are $600 or greater, correct?

Payment would be received from the consignee and the consignor would calculate tax impact (profit/loss) through self-reporting.

Not sure if this makes sense - I am going to be a first time consignor and have just been reading about the new requirement.

    Omega the Unknown 1!

Not that it is rare in high grade but when I was still collecting BA books, that was a series I was going after in 9.6/9.8 just because it was a series I read in the 70s.  I have 4 issues with a 9.8 of #1.

I am still waiting on Skull the Slayer which embarrassingly was a favorite of mine in the 70s because it had an ERB feel to it.  That one I just lack a #3 in 9.8.

  3. Really nice set of books.  All unread with unbroken spines and clean pages.  I bought these for my daughter and she never touched them - one of phases as teen-ager.

Really unsure how to price these.  I looked and could not find a lot of samples.  Amazon sellers had some issues available as did Ebay.  Most prices ranged between $10-$20 but those were for books in lower condition than these so I thought I would try just under $20 per book but will accept reasonable offers and/or pricing advice.

So I am unsure if these are in demand and what price would be a good ask.  I also realize ask prices on Ebay and Amazon don't necessarily reflect value.

I can ship within the US and all should fit in a medium flat rate USPS priority mail box which looks like $15.50.

Going to try $300 plus the $15.50 for US shipping.

PP Goods/Services. No returns. First I'll take in thread will get it and will beat any PM offers that have not been consummated.

I really like the cover and have a mini-hoard of these I've bought over the years, but I didn't care for the story. It's been years since I read it so perhaps I'll revisit it. The Moore run started when I owned my first shop and while I read 95% of the comics I sold, Swamp Thing wasn't among them.  A customer had pointed out the new artist to me and I kind of liked it so I read issues 21 and 22 back to back and didn't care for the new direction Moore was taking it.  It wasn't until around issue 25 that I started to enjoy it. I started to lose interest after American Gothic.

I had stopped buying new comics in the mid to late 80s.  I did read the Moore run and it is fabulous.  I wasn't buying many DCs in the 70s but loved Wrightson's art.

I'm surprised ST 7 is not more popular than it is. For awhile, it was practically ignored by Bat fans.  I know there's a lot of copies out there, but considering the craze for vintage Batman related books, you'd think more fans would be interested in Wrightson's take of the Dark Knight. Good to see it finally get more attention

It has long been one if not m favorite BA story.  Bats, Wein/Wrightson, ST, and a puppy.  I forget exactly when or where - probably a TBG ad, I bought a stack of Wrightson Swamp Things - they were/are in really nice condition.  I slabbed a few and actually had a few SS.  The best I got on the #7 was 9.6 on both copies I subbed.

    Memories from Christmas Past

It’s been another challenging year for many people but I hope conditions will improve next year.

Hopefully these Christmas photos will bring back some joy and good memories of Christmas past.

    1. Here’s a traditional Christmas card photo of kids reading a Pluto comic (FC 509) from 1953.

    2. A couple of kids wearing their best Sunday clothes reading comics.
The boy is reading Christmas Parade 5 but I’m not sure what the girl is reading.

    3. It’s been traditional to take photos of kids with their Christmas gifts and see their joy.
This kid is showing the books he got including some Gold Key comics and Supercar 2 from Christmas 1962.

Also note that people used to display all the Christmas cards they received.
Fewer people today send cards since there are alternatives like email, texting and other social media.

    4. In the past when toys were reasonably priced, some kids got lots of presents.
As toy prices went up, some kids got fewer but more costly presents.
Looking back in the year 1966, see what a haul this kid got for Christmas.
See if you can spot the comic and how many of these toys do you recognize?
I had a smaller version of the Motorific slot car set as a present.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

I had that Snow Cone maker or at least a similar version of it.

When I started the thread, my intention was for us all to post books which are 'oddly' similar, in the sense that they are not obvious homages, swipes or copies. I was looking for books that had a similarity that was likely unintentional.

Look at these two books below. Have you ever wondered why Flash was in such a cack-handed pose on the cover of the King Comic's Flash Gordon #10? He looks like he's put his back out, and is struggling to move.

But now we can see why, as the pose is a direct swipe of the Fantasy Reader that preceded it:

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the history of M.S. Pub.

Seems like after Fox Features went bankrupt they published a few random Fox titles with random numbering. Been trying to find out any information behind them, as I'm a big Crimes By Women fan and am just trying to learn more! Cheers

On GCD, it shows they only did seven books:

    Series Year Issues Covers Published
    Crimes by Women [m] 1952 1 issues (1 indexed) Gallery 1954?
    Famous Crimes 1952 1 issues (1 indexed) Gallery 1954?
    Inside Crime [m] 1952 1 issues (1 indexed) Gallery 1954?
    My Love Secret [m] 1952 1 issues (1 indexed) Gallery 1954?
    Western Killers [m] 1952 1 issues (1 indexed) Gallery 1954?
    Western Thrillers [m] 1952 1 issues (1 indexed) Gallery 1954 ?
    Women Outlaws [m] 1952 1 issues (1 indexed) Gallery 1954?

If you read the notes on the Crimes by Women, it does have a little information.  I did not go through all of them but it appears they are reprints of earlier stories.

And by the way, GCD shows as M.S. Dist. not M.S. Publishing as there was an M.S. Publishing that had a few platinum age showing on GCD but CGC apparently shows it as M.S. Pub. as you list.  I saw a slabbed copy on HA of Western Thrillers #52.

    Series Year Issues Covers Published
Home Sweet Home 1925 1 issues (0 indexed) Gallery 1925
    Life's Little Jokes 1924 1 issues (0 indexed) Gallery 1924 ?
    Little Napoleon 1924 1 issues (0 indexed) Have 1 (Need 1) 1924 ?
    Reg'lar Fellers 1925 1 issues (0 indexed) Gallery 1925

I know not much help and probably all you already knew but it made me curious too.

I saw that and I know I have been out of the game for a while but I cannot imagine that is a 20K book.  I guess it got CPRed from an 8.0 to this. I wonder what offer would be considered.

  10. Thanks for sharing your story @John Worley

I bought that book off the stands.  I was in 8th grade, I believe.  Even then, I heard about the blood -- I am embarrassed I was scared to read it thinking I might get some disease.  Alas, I have always been a germophobic. I actually had it graded some time ago.  I think I read about the blood in one of those Marvel Scholastic mags like Dynamite.  My copy in the spoiler

Interesting.  I don't believe this is a diving bell or Christmas ornament based on close examination.  As a November comic it was probably sold a month or two before the cover date, so the target demographic probably wasn't Santa's elves.  This "chamber of horrors" appears to be inside a laboratory as cradled test tubes are viewable through the globe and next to it.  The creature holding this container doesn't appear to be human.  The victims seem miniaturized and trapped inside this object with no oxygen available.

It's certainly a compelling piece of artwork that invites more questions than it resolves.  hm

Ok so I read RHG's response and was down with the ornament theory now I am looking for the grassy knoll.

I'm pretty sure it's a Christmas ornament based on the way the humans are dressed and the fact that it appears the scene takes place in a room indoors.  But until now, I never noticed the setting.  It's an apt one for this time of year.  [I need a Santa emoji to post here]

I see it now.  I saw the guy clutching his throat (like gasping for air) and my mind (what little there is left) went to a diving bell.

    @IngelsFan Christmas ornament it is.
