Leafing through a reader I just got, and saw a house ad for a comic that's been hunting my ebay saved search list for years 😄

For the wonder stories, the thinner issue has a star stamp.  Many decades later comics sold in military exchanges had star stamps, but 32 is pretty early for that kind of distribution.   The Nex started after  ww2, and the army knock off a few years prior.  Cool books either way.

A modest pickup but I really like these wartime Argosys. They have some pretty cool war prop interiors like these couple about Hitler not expecting to get hit back hard after the Blitzgrieg and allied traitors assisting Goebbels. A nice Sci-Fi reprint of "Fishhead" illustrated by Virgil Finlay rounds it out.20210913_152733.thumb.jpg.bcef4c7ece3c6f09189bf99fa2472399.jpg

Got the bewitched cover of startling stories a bit ago and liked it so much I'm working on the run.  Picked up around 30 reader copies recently.

Good luck on the search!  Do you have the January 1950 issue yet?  It’s not terribly rare but it’s almost too hot to touch these days.

At this point, it’s the cover, I believe.  The Hubbard story doesn’t hurt.  I originally tracked it down for the John D. MacDonald story.

Unless things have changed in the past year's pulp run-up, Hubbard appears often enough in science-fiction pulps that his work there has traditionally not added significant premiums to the issues.  He commands larger premiums when he pops up in other genres... adventure pulps, westerns, etc., where both his appearances, and the pulps themselves, tend to be harder to track down.

I think that depends on what you consider significant; as a percentage the bump was fairly noticeable.  But, given how cheap most of the SF pulps were, it wasn't much in actual dollars.  And there were at least a few ringers even in the SF books.  (Thinking of the 1st Dianetics issue of Astounding in particular, here; and a couple of his more famous stories in Unknown.)

Had a fun day today. Flea market find. First stash of pulps I’ve found since covid closed down all the shows.

Walked up a lady with 3 boxes of comics. Of course some young flipper was looking them up on his phone in front of her. Moderns... But, the center box was full of these. He wasn’t interested so I hit them.

I rarely buy this title but when I saw the were 1920’s-mid 1930’s and all ERB, I grabbed these. I really don’t know much about them. Just bought what I liked and were in nice shape. A lot looked pretty brittle, pieces off cover, taped.

I left a bunch of ‘30’s era in pretty low grade. Probably should have bought them too because on my 2nd trip by, some guy was buying the rest of the box.

Will be fun to go through these.

Got some time off finally so doing my thing and digging around ebay pestering some of the big pulp sellers with lowball best offers, and came across this book which seemed really familiar.

Took a bit of digging, but I think it reminds me of a Rangers comic.

Swipe?  Homage?  Or something obvious a newbie like me missed?
