You are all alone and you send your dog out for the paper. He comes back with something unexpected. But probably too short .

Didn't the Black Bat pre-date Batman? This is the second Black Bat (from Nedor) that appeared about the same time as the DC version.

 

 

 

Check out those gloves. Do they look familiar?

 

 

What about the Bat symbol on the crooks forehead?

 

 

The villain in this story was called the bat man. He had a gun and wore spectacles.

 

I like Batman but I wonder who started first. Was it comics or pulps?

As much as I love comics, the lurid covers to pulps in the 30s and 40s blow away 1950s pre-code horror comic book covers.

I think a young Schomburg did a nice job on this Experimenter cover before it turned into Amazing (or combined with Science and Invention).

 

 

And the return of Captain Future looked pretty good too.

Those two are especially appealing. Any idea who drew them?

There's a signature near the dog, but I can't read it.

Wing-Girl (the mutant story?) reminds me of a young Mary Tyler Moore!

The artists were Walter Parks for the MTM and Robert Jones did the dog. Both pretty good covers.

Robert Jones did this cover too. And sometimes she has strange friends.

 

 

Sometimes you meet a girl and you like her but then she has her brain transplanted into a giant killer robot.

 

 

Or she is just perfect and her parents don't like you (and they act strange everytime you visit her).

just wanted to show my pulp brothers that I, a self confessed and self diagnosed comic geek, was willing to expand my horizons and do a little "research" on pulps, and the fascination surrounding!

Not really my pulp -- cover arrived as "pulp of the day" on a list I joined -- but it struck me as funny to find "collector" and "slab" on a 1950 cover. The hot babe in red was less surprising.
