I'll pound you to a "Pulp" if you don't show off yours!

I posted last week about the collection of pulps I discovered at a local junk auction for $30 which inlcuded some WEIRD TALES, UNKNOWN, and FAMOUS MYSTERIES all from the late 30s to early 50s; approx. a hundred issues. Well, I found some interesting literary magazines mixed in the lot and hoping someone can help identify rarity and value.

As I sorted through the lot yesterday I discovered a bunch of magazines (slightly larger than pulp size but smaller than modern) called TWO WORLDS. The fifteen issues have James Joyce's ULYSSES published....before the first authorized American printing! These date from 1926-27, and are pre-dated by another set of five magazines (same publisher) that reprint ULYSSES as the new "Unamed" work of Joyce. I researched the publishing history of ULYSSES and these mags seem to be rare: though I find mention of them I can find no value. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated:)

I second the thanks. Even though James the J might have gotten a wee bit carried away with his own gift- it gives us 'comic geeks' a few highbrow points to make such a 'sophisticated' score while huntin' funny books. Plus, Chupp- you seem to have a knack for turning up treasure at auctions...my advice: Keep it Up!!

The Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia is interested in the TWO WORLDS collection: I e-mailed them pictures and they may make me an offer! They do not have a complete collection so hoping these magazines eventually end up in in a museum for others to enjoy! I'll be happy to make a few bucks so I can buy more comics...and visit more auctions:-)

Golden Fleece has several claims to fame: perhaps paramount is that they ran more art than most (any?) other pulps. The lead novelette here- by that scribe best known as creator and author of Zorro- is 40-some pages with 5 full page, 4 half page, several quarter page illos- rest of mag similar... Second point- they are the only(?) mag to use M Brundage as interior artist. Here she does the cover and the McCulley plus full page illo for it on inside FC.V2 #6 June 1939- save for the worm hole (which is clean and kinda cool) this would be high grade. Listed as Sun Publications -Chicago- the look and feel of the mag is very WT-like... Despite seeming kinship to Weird Tales my #1 (10/38 only other ish I own) has back cover ad for Amazing- either more incestuous publishing or a novel way to make a buck (running ad for the competition's mag...). Cov on #1 by Harold Delay (+ interiors for the Talbot Mundy novelette) artist on many pulps and GA comics- something of a history specialist...

Here are a hanful of the Shadow pulps from my collection. I had taken a few group shots from about a year back.

Shadows are around, however can be tough to get, if you have to have them in high grade with near white paper as I am a stickler of.

I am constantly upgrading, even by a quarter of a grade, but that is what keeps it challenging and fun (and frustrating).

If anyone comes across a nice copy of Shadow #1 (Pulp -1931), please let me know as I will pay a record price for it. I also need nice copies of #3 - #6, and the Romanoff Jewels and then I will have a high grade complete run (325 issues).
