A trio of cheap issues in from MCS today.  I grabbed the WEST issues for the Zorro stories, and it didn't register until I had it in hand that one of them had an early Louis L'Amour story as well:

An interesting item, an office dummy for a rare pulp, Macfadden's Flying Stories, May 1929.  I'm gonna include a number of pics in case peeps find it of interest.  F.O. on the stamps is Fulton Oursler, Macfadden's right hand man.

I stuck a full scan (minus the missing TOC page, unfortunate) up at the IA last night:

I'm not gonna put it on the IA, but here's the full raw dummy copy, too.  The office notes are neat, and you get to learn pseudonyms on the writers.  Looking back through it when I was assigning art credits in the contents I noticed none of the dummy material seemed to note artists or art pay in any ways, I guess that was all left to the art department:

It's a weird one. Fictionmags doesn't call it a pulp til the 20s, but my issue has a lot of fiction in it (almost all with auto themes) including a couple of prolific pulp authors (Pendexter, Gunn).  There's Cartoons and illustration but also some intellectual articles in addition to a women's department.  Built like a pulp for sure, though.  Chicago put out some unique magazines.  I'll put this one in the scanning box.

It turns into Cartoons then Cartoons Magazine then back to Cartoons Magazine and Wayside Tales and then finally returns to just Wayside Tales.  Then I think Hubbard buys the Cartoon Magazines title??

A long and winding road.  The Chicago mags are always hard to lay hands on, too (scarcity as much as price, but one thing leads to the other when we're talking extreme scarcity).  Maybe there's no relation between the first series of Wayside Tales which ran at least up to the one I have in here in 1906 but I'm guessing longer and Cartoons/Cartoons Magazine but there's a lot of commonality that makes me believe they are related
