Stupid Greedy Ebay scammer

18 posts in this topic

I'm lazy so I just cut and paste from another forum, but hey its my text so it's not plagarism!

------------

We've all seen someone making a fake auction after they see a piece

sell for big bucks, but this guy is selling a Steve Rude Thor Cover

while Steve still has it up on ebay!

only a insufficiently_thoughtful_person would bid on it!

Lets see if any of you can spot the fake vs the real one.

500 bucks? that was your max bid? how do you expect to win?

of course if we all put in stupidly high bids, it won't be as exciting. We should all bid small increments just to give it alot of action.

I reported it to ebay if that's what you mean. This guy forgot to delete the links to the people's auctions he stole from in his other listings. Stupid scammers.

That's good. Steve Rude also needed to be notified mainly, because he is the owner of the actual artwork. He can make the most impact on this scammer.

Good job Army doc. (thumbs u

What kind of action can be taken against these guys? I would think they're practically untracable. I understand notifying Steve Rude, but what can he do if he doesn't know who this actually is (other than report it)?

I had no idea this kind of stuff was as rampant as it is until I started frequenting the boards.

I got a e-mail from Steve about this. Ebay is an accomplish in this crime as far as I'm concerned.

My response is as follows -

Thanks. I have received several reports of this listing and am surprised that eBay has not yet taken it down. They must have received at least 2 dozen reports. I reported it earlier today to eBay and the first reply was they there was nothing they could do about it. I am now reporting it as the "copyright owner" (through their VeRO program). Hopefully it should be removed by morning.

I'm glad you posted this malvin. It deserves to go on the General CGC forum too.

As a copyright owner, Steve was the only one who could do anything about it, the rest of us complaining would have done squat. Ebay can't start taking down auctions because of user complaints, that is way way too much overhead.

However, they need (have?) to give copyright owners the right to complain about copyright violations.
