Where have you found comics unexpectedly?

29 posts in this topic

As for me, a few weeks ago I found about 6 copies of ASM #317 jammed into a spinner rack. I purchased 5 of them for cover price as the top one on the stack had its cover ripped and was beat up. The rest were in FN+ overall. Nothing great, but a small score still.

According to the guy at the register, they used to have a small section of magazines and comics years ago (they no longer do) and somone found this stack in a store room so they put it out and stuffed it in the spinner rack along with the maps.

Any stories like this?

I picked up an ASM 10 a couple of years back in about 6.0/6.5 on the corner of 40th st and 7th Ave . The kid said his dad gave it to him, but he wanted to sell it to get a pair of sneakers...

He attempted to sell it to two shops but they both had copies already... I picked it up for about 140 .. I think guide was 300 for 6.0 at the time.

I picked up a Superman #33, about ($50), an old Blue Beetle from the 40s [$20], Super Duck from the 40s for [$20], and Walt Disneyfrom the 40s [$20], all of which I don't remember their numbers while here at work, all about 3.0 to 4.0 at a used book store. I think the Sup alone is worth about a couple a hundred.

In July or August of 1984, I found six copies of Thor 337 at a Fireworks place outside of Gatlinburg, TN. They were the only other things for sale at the place other than the fireworks. hm I bought the three nicest copies and felt like I had just discovered the Church collection.

Shafting? Half-guide for a street-corner transaction with a kid selling a comic over 40 years old that he "got from his dad" (yeah, right)? I'd say that's borderline generous!

An antique dealer had a old low grade Action 14 for sale on ebay and I emailed him if he had any other books (I lost the ebay auction). It so happened he did have a Flash Comics 7 and Adventure 50. I bought them both for $500 offline and the Flash 7 was graded a VG. Pretty cool on such a great book.

About 14 years ago ( I was 14 or so) my mom bought me a Monopoly game at a garage sale. When I got home and opened it up, underneath the board there was a VG silver age Justice League comic and an 80's porno mag. At the time, I don't know which one made me happier! Haha.
