Popular Post Tom789 Posted June 11 Popular Post Share Posted June 11 This was a 25-book vintage submission for my PC of raw books I recently purchased and pressed. Overall, I was slightly disappointed with the grades the lower condition books got, but pleasantly surprised with the grades most of the higher quality books got. The biggest surprise was Dr. Strange #169. I bought it from Heritage, which rated it at 6.0. It got an 8.5. I bought ASM #62 from Comic Collector, represented as an 8.5, but it got a 7.5. There was a small stain on the front that I think had a bigger impact than expected. I know CGC hates stains, but I didn't know they HATE stains. ASM #97 was my bad. I overestimated the grade and wouldn't have submitted it if I knew it would get a 5.0. And yep, it has a stain on the front cover. I like getting the raw books and making them more presentable rather than purchasing graded books but that seems to be getting tougher as raw prices approach graded in many cases. I'd also like to upgrade all my Spidey's as the opportunities arise, but it's very tough to find higher grade books in the raw, so I will probably succumb and just buy graded books. Lol, re: the pass prescreen issue, that was another submission. I kind of went HAM a few weeks ago and submitted a lot of books. I typically have a local spot where I source most of my NM books but I found another spot a bit farther away that also has a great selection of NM stuff, soooo my submissions are increasing lol. The naughty ones were actually a gift from a distributor friend and are pretty rare, and like you I don't really seek those out. This one I got from eBay in a 2-pack for $10. I didn't press it, just sent it straight in as is. Got this at a comic con for a good price. I thought it looked like a 9.8 contender but I must've missed something. I got this on Whatnot for $20, thought I could clean the smudge on the front which you can't really see anymore. Found this at a garage sale for $1 Got about 5 of these at a recent comic con for $5 each. These comix from the late 70s are always beat up. This one looked the best: I traded a few records for this one. He obviously hasn't sent comics in the mail before because it came sandwiched between a few other records. I think it could've been a higher grade as that packaging might've damaged it a bit. now for the big boys: Picked this one for around $150 from my fav LCS. I really thought this could get a 9.8 but there were just too many tiny lil imperfections. Still stoked on the grade. I'm very (pleasantly) surprised this got a 9.8. The back had some wear that I tried to buff out, which I guess was enough. Stoked! Another $100 pickup from my LCS. I don't think they realized it was worth so much. I am SOOOO happy to own some 9.8 Dave Stevens history. My LCS had a bin of stuff they were going to auction off on their weekly IG sale and I came in on Sunday and got to peek in before they went up. They actually had 2 others and I asked if I could get all 3 and the owner said I could only get one lol. Guess I chose right! And the pièce de résistance. I knew it was high grade but I did not expect this. Sure it's not #1 but I LOVE this cover.
