PHOTON - early 70s Horror fanzine

I'm glad you all like em!

 

These issues averaged about 48 pages. These later issues are on slick heavy stock magazine paper. The earlier issues were cardboard covers.

 

Some of these are super-tough in high grade. I scoop em up whenever I happen to see em!

Now I have just stumbled into this area, shame on me. My copy of this issue, bought on the stands, I swear had an 8 x 10 glossy black and white print of Tod Browning and his "Freaks" enclosed.

Each early issue of PHOTON had a 8x10 glossy when it was bought new. I believe these may have varied from issue to issue. My issue had a great glossy from ISLAND OF LOST SOULS.

 

Its hit and miss when you buy them today.

 

And indeed, shame on you for not visiting the Magazine forum! ;)

Its a quiet little suburb of the board - off the beat and track.

 

Just as Bronze age comics were becoming popular 10 years ago, I see the same thing happening to B&W comics mags!

Thanks Bill. As threatened, here is the glossy supplied with that issue.

 

If I had been able to find them I would have bought more, but the distribution chain here was really hit and miss back in the day.

 

Around the same time I did pick up an "album" of individual B&W glossies. Lots of horror/SF stills.

 

Given I now know Photon supplied these things in the early issues, I wonder if they were "liberated" from the magazine and sold separately? hm
