in this undated photo, a kid at a dealers table in new york is about to make the biggest and toughest decision in his young life:

get the marvel 1 or capt america 1?

 

wouldn't you like to be in his shoes? just think, either book was probably within a kid's allowance and savings back then.

i think this photo may be from the early 1960s since the pegboard display is pretty organized and there are no comic bags.

the dealer has great books. can you identify the other books?

My answers are (a) Cap 1 and (b) Weird Science 11.

 

In fact, since I still don't have WS 11, there's a chance I'd make the same choice now.

he probably bought both, cut out the pictures from the covers, glued them to popsickle sticks and made a puppet show for the guys in the neighborhood.

i still wish my grandfather had collected comics instead of a collection of rusty screws and bolts in a vast array of mason jars.

 

my 89 year old father in law collects the same thing. Though he did expand his collection to rusty keys.

There are October and November copies.

if it is in fact photoshopped then the original must be somewhere. I doubt the original owner of the picture photoshopped it to fool the internet.

It's a pretty good photoshop job if that's true. It might just be that the camera was focused on the Marvel Comics #1. And all the other books were not as sharp in the photo.
