Batman #1 on ebay misrepresented???

126 posts in this topic

Silver age comics listed Batman #1 on ebay item # 350044598061 as GD/GD+ original owner "Oregon Batman collection". Does this book look familiar? Another seller listed this book several times on ebay #190202522207 & #19020912502 and many other times in between as raw 2.0 to CGC 1.0. CGC gave this book restored 1.0 and it looks like this book is passed as unrestored 2.0/2.5. You be the judge, deception???

Definitely the same book... look at the signature on the upper right of the first page in both auctions:

And look at how much better the cover seems to be attached in the newer auction (or is he just not opening the book all the way when taking the picture?)

and of course, since this book was previously bought and sold and cgc'd and un-cgc'd and cracked and worked on, and offered from a NY seller, it is of course, an OR OO book

That's a remarkable timeline.

Good catch!

Exactly. Not that they needed any help....but this makes Silver Age look absolutely terrible. Even if they didn't know the book was previously slabbed as a 1.0, they obviously know that this book came from a different source as the rest of the collection. And this is the most high-profile Batman they are offering; it's not like it would have been a careless error. Is any GA Batman consigned to them between March and April offered up as part of the same OO collection?

Well, someone obviously signed the 1st page, probably the original owner... maybe they reunited this book with the rest of that guy's collection, from which it had once been separated and sold off?

It appears to be misrepresented as an original owner book, and by most collectors estimation is obviously overgraded. The odd thing about the high profile auctions from this seller, is that all the information is provided to make an accurate assessment by an interested buyer, and the reluctance to use restoration to describe work having been done, the overgrading, and the suspect provenance only serve to make the whole deal look shady and may only serve to inhibit the final price realized for books that should sell easily anyway without the disengenuous hype.

Wow, these guys look more and more like scumbags every single day. So far I've been outbid or have decided at the last second not to bid on any of their books, even the slabbed ones, and I couldnt be happier.

They wont be getting any future bids from me.

Awesome catch airwalker.

For me, it puts the enire "Oregon" collection into question.

i wouldn't go that far ,maybe taking advantage with listing the #1 as part of the collection, but surely it is just a lack of knowledge or research by SA.... I believe on the bats, that they were legit, just not NM+ (more like fns and vfs)... maybe the selkirk or selnick or something like that?
