When it comes to on-site grading, dealers submit books early to see how the grading for any given show is going to be - about 3-4 years ago at WW Chicago, for instance, the grades were fairly loose across the board, and a lot of people were doing extra submissions Friday and Saturday morning to take advantage of this.

The year after that it was the other way around - everyone was getting hammered on their early submissions which resulted in a clear decrease in later submissions.

This isn't a rumor; it's like that for every single show that offers on-site grading - there's a bit of "testing the waters" going on in the beginning which influences the total number of submissions.

This, however, has absolutely nothing to do with the unfounded rumor of individuals receiving "gift grades" on just their books - if CGC's grading is loose at a show, it affects everyone who's submitting books (much like when CGC is going through a tight cycle for books graded at CGC HQ and everyone gets hammered).

You and I are going in circles. lol

I don't disagree with this post. In fact, your post illustrates the culture of why the onsite rumor exists. ;)

I also never said I believed gift grades were really happening. There is NO proof to make that claim.

I think the only thing you and I disagree on is whether or not it's possible for a grader to know the owner of a book during onsite grading.

Why do we think that's an unpublished cover for issue 60? I find it hard to believe that Tony would do one random cover three years later...and that it would go unpublished. Maybe I am just jaded, but my gut says it's just a pinup that's being labeled as an "unpublished cover" in order to get a higher price.

Would make more sense if it was 6 and the 60 is a typo

It was originally an April Fools joke.

Tony Moore posted he was returning to WD for 6 issues, and put this cover on his blog. He claimed the run would start with issue #60. (thumbs u

That's exactly what it is..I was offered this piece a couple of months ago and is owned by a board member here. It's a cool piece of history but I think it's a pretty misleading title and would like to hope it's corrected when the actual auction starts. :wishluck:

Speaking of OA on sale has anyone else noticed Ebay UK (can't say I have searched the OA boards to see if it was advertised)

Lots of pages...

There is some nice artwork in there on a couple of pages... but I am left feeling not quite luke warm about a lot of what is on offer (and what is on Splash now). Will be interesting to see how this auction fares as they are starting roughly at cost if we assume they were all shipped together.

Granted there will always be hot/key pages that will immediately stand out but speculation on just about anything going has got to be long term surely?

I can't begin to compare TWD pages with the stuff I used to read in my childhood / teens because I cherish those memories from a simpler time. TWD will probably be the same for the next generations of fans to come when they stop being readers and start collecting but that will take a while. :blahblah:

Also about the worst possible descriptions in regards to what they are trying to auction. You can't really read what issue or page they are from the pictures and that info isn't listed even in the auctions.

all were available on Splash for 100 dollars - the guy who bought them - Lorne - bought them with the intent of insta-flipping. - Lorne and I are friends - thats how I know about the pages, lol.

Funny that once someone puts it on ebay, it immediately becomes more valuable or more attractive.

Well good luck to him. I would have definitely worked a bit more on the presentation, put them up for longer and listed them in 3-4 areas outside of the UK as well. Jpegbay is easy for hosting free large images in auctions.

No need to panic if they don't all sell. BIN is your friend :P

(TWD and TWD OA has done done me a favour, it's reignited my passion for comics. *continues to lurk the Bat boards*)

Yeah the blue is the best I have seen but in my personal opinion that book doesn't present well with sigs as where else can you sign it other than on top of that great illustration?

Just my own preferences of course.

Blue ink signed copy (was jjeanius) http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5864593&fpart=1

Ebas has that same preference, he refuses to sign anywhere over his art that isn't an empty space.
