beauty 8.0/8.5 due to spine stress,too bad it's a counterfeit.Even those are pretty hard to come by.

In hand, it looked like a straight-up 8.5 - just got the grade today, and it came back a 7.5

 

That made no sense, so I called CGC and the grader's notes were:

- multiple color-breaking spine ticks (as seen in the scan)

- fingerprint identations on the cover

 

Still doesn't make sense

I think there is an additional stigma attached to a counterfeit book that causes the grader (either consciously or subconsciously) to be much harsher on a book than they otherwise might be - similar to a restored copy.

Agree here, this was undergraded. Looks like a strong 8.5 to me.

Those spine ticks kill the grade for sure. Just too many of 'em to give it even an 8.0 -- even though the rest of the book displays like a 9.2.
