Think this Hulk Annual #1 PGX 9.8 will get a CGC 9.8?

54 posts in this topic

One of the most awesome hulk issues of all time (cover and story) IMO. Both are beautiful copies.

Regarding grade. Here's a comparison to a beautiful Nothland 9.6 pending sale on comiclink at $507.

Considering the UR rounded corner on the PGX vs. the 9.6, I would gladly take the 9.6 CGC for the price IMHO. CGC corners look a lot sharper from my eye. Any other thoughts?

There's definitely more art on the CGC right edge. hm

But there is more white space on the left side of the PGX cover. The first CGC copy just has a better wrap.

Not being one to defend PGX, but the artwork on the PGX front cover is consistent with the CGC copy with a similar wrap (white on the left).

You noticed that too.

How is it possible this did not get a green label from CGC. If you are going to call it a 9.6 but with 3 torn pages, it needs to be a green label. They do the same thing every time a NM comic comes along with a cover detached from one staple.

Could it be part of the pedigree,

This is really a question of motive...

Let's say you owned a pristine Mercedes Benz, and you wanted to sell it.

You could get an official evaluation and certification as a

Mercedes Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle (that is, a comic graded by CGC)...

http://www.mbusa.com/pre-owned/about/why-certified-pre-owned.do

...but instead, you decide to have your pristine Mercedes "certified"

by "Billy Bob's Muffer and Tire Shop" (a comic graded by PGX).

Now, why would anyone ever do that? hm

Should any potential buyer feel satisfied because the car

looks pretty good sitting on the lot from a distance?

I imagine a lot of PGX customers are local, now.

Yeah, they can just stop by and grade and slab their own books. They save money by just renting the equipment out. Less overhead.

$507 for a 9.6 Northland copy of that book seems quite

reasonable, IMO...

How many Northland copies of this book exist? That does seem like a good deal

since a dealer to dealer sale of a similar copy sold for $2.336 back in 2006.

Northland Hulk #1

That's the same copy I posted earlier...

So the Northland copy with torn pages 9.6 went to no comments on the label and a 9.8? hm

Oh, yes! (thumbs u

The move to 'no comments, big numbers' labels sure did help a lot of folk.

Unfortunately, none of them were buyers, but then who cares about the little guy making the purchases?

What are the odds CGC will agree with the PGX grade on this Hulk Annual #1?

If there is no trimming or other shenanigens with this book, it may get a CGC 9.8.

Heck, as noted above, the CGC 9.6 morphed to a 9.8 and it has one inch tears on several pages.

Sorry people.

The CGC 9.6 with the tears did not get a 9.8 bump. (tsk)

It's a nice story but it just aint true.

Then that brings me up to my original question. How many copies of the Northland Hulk #1

Annuals are out there? We have a tread that documents a Northland Hulk Annual #1 being upgraded

from CGC 9.6 to CGC 9.8.

From Matt Nelson in an earlier thread: "Someone finally emailed me about the Hulk

Yes, it is the Northland copy There was a mistake made when the book was

resubmitted, and the pedigree designation was left off by accident. ... "
