Does date stamp bring grade down?

OK,

 

I'm in a battle with a friend, one of us says date stamp brings grade down and the other says it doesn't. Here is a sample.

 

 

What do you guys know about this? Any past experience?

what if it was date stamped hard and took a piece of the crotch out?

I'd grade that book a fair plus because of the date stamp. Sell it to me for double guide.

Here was a date stamp that I thought hurt the grade more than what CGC did.

I'd grade that book a fair plus because of the date stamp. Sell it to me for double guide.

 

So I believe that would be $55

My understanding is that CGC doesn't normally penalize a book for a date stamp, but Overstreet does. The OS Guide definitely specifies how 'egregious' a date stamp can be on a book of a certain grade. So the jury's still out on that one, unless you're only interested in CGC's opinion. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
