Alpha Flight, Avengers, and the FF.

I went with Avengers solely based on the original run 1 to 200. great stories, writers and artists plus it kept me interested for 200 issues. most books will give you 6 to 12 decent issues. this was a consistent good read for over a decade.

I think there should be some differentiation between those groups that originated as groups, ie Fantastic Four and those that were solo heroes and then put aside their egos to work for the common good as a team, ie JLA.

 

Stan Lee had the luxury to give the FF some complimentary powers that could work together and form a more coherent 'team'.

 

Groups like the JLA were always stymied by the fact that they had Superman who constantly had to be given some plot device whereby he couldn't use his powers to the fullest to sort mess out. Giving the secondary heroes some reason for being.

 

Green Lantern and Green Arrow were the mess though.
