Geez...If you want a PREACHER page...

98 posts in this topic

I wonder what is driving the price on THIS PAGE (preacher16pg03) more:

1) "early issue" hysteria (can #16 be called an early issue?)

or

2) Thrill bidding knowing that you can bid over $1K and not hit the reserve?

at this point I'm not even going to pretend I know what this will end up at, but I am betting the reserve is NOT popped. :juggle:

I was just trying to figure out what the deal was. It has cool dialog but I would not have pegged it as a 1000+ page! I was trying to figure out why it was so high and then I saw the reserve hinted at in the description. I can only imagine that has something to do with it.

I thought the reserve would have been about 500 or so. OOPS!

No one was willing to bid that high. They were just "nothing" bids ESPECIALLY since the guy stated the reserve was over 1750. Maybe you can put one of your "nothing" pages up with a statement that 1750 won't win it but really have a reserve of 1200. You'd make out! lol

SO you think it was the "bid under the reserve, but be high bidder so the seller will try to work a deal with me" tactic?

I am not saying that. I can be a fool sometimes but I like to think people don't try to cheat on ebay. I just think that people were goofing off and bidding it up because they knew it wouldn't meet the reserve. One of the underbidders was walking it up and I think they did that just to see what the highest bidder was in at. The high bidder had a ton of feedback so I don't think he would be an accomplice- but you never know.

I actually like the page. Great dialog. However, I was not even remotely considering a bid at that level.

What a joke. Definitely the latter, don't even consider the former. Why not just start the bidding at $1750 and be able to claim "no reserve"? A total waste of time for all concerned.

In a true no reserve auction, that's a $200-300 page.

What is the point of thrill bidding? Serious question. Are they just looking for a "thrill"? Aee they curious to see what the top bid is? Are they trying to manipulate the market?

Come on, Felix. The page is a little better than 200-300, don't you think? No action but the dialog was classic Starr! I just hope that people don't try to use this as a barometer for other Preacher art. :sorry:

lol Maybe I am exaggerating a tad. The last piece did pretty well in my humble opinion. I didn't think it was a standout page at all but it ended at a healthy price!

For the last several months, some people have been speculating that the art market will face a big correction and that prices will drop. As well, I noted in this thread that a lot of people are overvaluing PREACHER pages based on one $3K auction. Both theories have converged and the proof is on Ebay. Some really great PREACHER pages have been fetching just a fraction of what they would have months ago.

Case in point, this awesome Saint of Killers page sold for a measly $550:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120365237948

These sold for even less, only $100 each. All great examples, especially the page from issue #1:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110339840993

Oh wait...all "Buy-It-Nows".

doh!

Never mind.

:frustrated:

Figured it'd be a good time to resurrect this old thread since one of those $100 Buy-It-Now pages has resurfaced for sale:

And that, my friends, is called winning the eBay Buy-It-Now lotto. Times three.

More like wishful thinking, IMO.

Yes, the asking price is quite...optimistic. But even at a more realistic figure, he'll have done very, very well.

Assuming he was the one that won the BIN lotto.

What if he bought those pages at his asking price! doh!
