Why do some people get rare confused with classic?

40 posts in this topic

I'm confused, Windmill #1 is not classic?

I like windmills, doesn't everybody? (shrug) I have hoarded #1's in the hopes of cornering the windmill market and cashing in once the movie comes out.

Price is gonna soar when the new "Don Quixote" movie is released... :applause:

I see a thread in the making, "post your windmill covers"

:D

mmmmm...windmill covers :cloud9:

Thanks for the comments and pictures everyone, I can see I am out of my league here. But, I promise you this I will get better and I will learn how to grade. I have bought comics all my life but I have not taken good care of many comics from the past. This board is full of very smart collectors the likes I have never seen. It is clear you guys know your stuff and in the future I hope to have better news of my development as a serious comic guy. Thanks for all the input I hope all of you have a great week. By the way I really like this new series :The End League it really looks like a good comic, but I have not read all the issues yet.

I hear a lot of people on here making a big deal about "rare" books and it is true that rare books can be worth a lot of money. It is like an animal on the verge of extinction. I am more concerned with classic qualitiy books that never go out of style like the X-MEN or the Watchmen. I have much respect for rare items or one of a kind items but that does not make a collector of them any more sophisticated than and invester of classics. So, you have the only gloss brown gumdrop ever made. Who really gives a spoon. A rare item is great, but a classic item continues to grow. How many people have been inspired by the Watchmen or Sandman? Now compare that to how many people have been inspired by your one of a kind comic book about windmills.

Some will say it is "supply and demand". I say that "supply" has less to do with it than "demand". The demand for books like Hulk 181, ASM 129, X-Men 94 or GS X-Men 1 etc etc. This demand can drive up prices to ludicrous levels even though the supply is sufficient.

But you are making a classic mistake when you say I am more concerned with classic qualitiy books that never go out of style like the X-MEN or the Watchmen. What you are REALLY saying is I am more concerned with the books that I really like such as the X-MEN or the Watchmen. Also a middlin' point. You say "X-MEN". I ask - which X-MEN?

I hate it when someone confuses classic with popular.
:acclaim:

You were classic in high school ? (shrug)

He was a collector's item back then. He got slabbed several times, apparently.

I hate it when someone confuses popular with slutty. That little misnomer has caused me way too many trips to the walk-in clinic
