pressing war... choose sides

84 posts in this topic

What I would like to know is: Has any board member kept a tab on who is in favor of, who is against, who doesn't care, who is undecided on pressing, etc.?

With a bit of forethought, we should have roped Cal in to compile some lists.

Sheesh, the situation must be desperate. doh!

After 279 threads of this nature, that's as good a word as any.

OK, this is now a real surprise...

41 Pro-pressing, 42 Anti-pressing :o

Even if that vote falls away a touch, it will remain a high percentage of people against the practice.

If you assume that the majority of dealers are for the practice, and the majority of practitioners/traders are for the practice, what percentage of the actual buying public is actually in support? (shrug)

But as we've been told time and time again...nobody cares about pressing. meh

It appears that those for pressing have a monetary involvement (more than most) in the business and the fact that some do not feel the need to disclose means they are aware that the practice is not fully accepted.

I know this has been said numerous times before over the last two weeks but at the end of the day it stands out in all those threads.

Nick is right to make the distinction between those for and against. It seems a clear distinction. Those for pressing are doing so for profit not preservation.

You need one more option in the poll "I could care less"

Soooo.....this is a very hot topic for you? :baiting:

Burning hot lol. All I care about is a.) that I like the book b.) that the seller disclose anything to me that's been done to the book. c.) the price is good. Beyond that I'm good.

But you see, the fly in the ointment is that there may be individuals who are anti-pressing, but when faced with the decision, will still purchase a pressed book.

Interesting we at 43 - 43 for the pro pressers but it is so close. Sounds like a divided community on the subject to me.

I'm sorry but with the ease to shill on these boards no result can be trusted. Heck, Stu alone could probably double the number of anti-pressers. :makepoint:

Statistics will allow for this...there should be an equal number of 'shills' for either side...or at least in the same proportion. (thumbs u

Agreed.

However, can this not be a case of them having to make the purchase...or make no purchase at all? It certainly will be in a few years time, the way that we're going.

What is being said here is that if they had the choice, they would prefer pressing to go away.

I disagree, anti-pressers are more virulent. :foryou:

I disagree. There are an unlimited amount of books already in 9.6 condition where it is not financially sensible to press.

What is being said here is that if they had the choice, they would prefer pressing to go away.

Again, that is one interpretation. There is a difference between not subscribing to a particular matter and wishing it ceased to exist.

So then...just how would you like to spin interpret the results? (shrug)
