I love this stuff. This story is an example of how times have changed. Its a virtually unknown strip called The Mouthpiece from Police Comics #11, 1942.....but WOW....is justice dished out in the end !! Thats the part I like

Badguy....breaks in to elderly peace-loving American airplane inventors home to steal plans....Notice how the lawn is nicely mowed and the garage door is left open at night in trusting manner. These are good honest people.

Unarmed American airplane inventor Mr. Munsey, who is also somewhat elderly, confronts thief only to get a knife in the throat for his troubles. And not just any thief....but a left handed thief. God thats so sinister. Poor but attractive Mrs. Munsey comes downstairs just in time to hear her husbands last words.

Hearing about the murder....our hero, The Mouthpiece decides to get involved......because he's......Our Hero

The badguy, who just murdered poor Mrs. Munseys husband for almost no reason, now has his badguy meter increased about 100 points cuz we learn he is working with the Nazis, whom the whole world hates........except the Italians

The Mouthpiece, who must have never heard of The Spirit, and didn't realize that his particular ensemble was already taken, makes the scene and knocks the mess outta the badguy.

Afraid of absolutely nothing, The Mouthpiece makes a bold and daring move.....like any Hero would.....except MoonNight :baiting:

mouthpiece-7.jpg

Deciding the best course of action is to take on the whole Nazi submarine because he is .......A Hero.....thats exactly what he does !! Wow !!

mouthpiece-8.jpg

The terror stricken Nazis dive in an attempt to escape the American Fighting Machine known as The Mouthpiece.....but forget one little thing.....

mouthpiece-9.jpg

After holding his breath for 6 1/2 minutes and satisfied he has killed the entire subs Nazi crew, The Mouthpiece swims for the surface to handle the next trouble......

mouthpiece-10.jpg

The two surviving Nazi sailors, who have just seen this guy take down an entire U-boat and crew single handed, try their hardest not to cry as he swims toward their raft.

And what of poor old Mrs. Munseys husbands murderer???

What do you suppose happened to him??

Thanks for the post :applause:

Guardineer, right? Doesn't get any cleaner than Guardineer on a good day. Interestingly, he drew this one in a less realistic fashion than some of his earlier strips. It's nice to see those golden great artists showcase they could work in different styles with relative ease compared to one-note artists of today.

But to his credit, Bulloni was defiant until the end. Notice how with his last ounce of strength, he flipped the Mouthpiece the bird.

Was Mouthpiece standing behind Bulloni when the switch was thrown, as he seems to be flipping the bird to people behind him, or is it a Cripp/Bloods hand sign and Mouthpiece was going to indulge in a little gang warfare in the next issue
